LuminanceParticipantHey Everyone,
I see that there has been a lot of copyright debate on here but I was just wondering what everyone’s opinion is on this subject. (I apologize if this has been discussed already as well) I’m not trying to make a cent on anything in this scenario. All I want to do is create a myspace page and just give it to my friends so I can have an easy interface for people to check out some hot jams. My opinion is that since I’m not making any money and I give credit to the artist of whatever acapella I use, it shouldn’t be an issue. Thoughts? Thanks!

BuBaParticipantIt is an issue
Cause if u give a credit to a artist and he doesnt know that, is considered illegal. Cause if he/she doesnt know its like never happened. Although there are small chances that ull be cought that he`ll find out. This topic is brought up almost every day so keep searching around the forum.

dj_abdParticipantcan see both sides of view there. Definately agree with sdbiondi that there shouldn’t be any problem with it.
I’ve had one or two of my remixes taken down because of this issue. I suppose even though we aren’t tryna make any money, legally we would still need the artists concent, which does seem stupid for a couple of mashups that possibly only a few 100 people will hear.AdSense 336x280February 16, 2007 at 6:05 pm #613352
BuBaParticipantI know what u mean, but law is law. If u would be succesfull ull probably NOW say that its ok to do that. While in real life we all know its not like that. How would you feel when someone would just take your credits, your money, your hard work and post it some where else. You wouldnt know it and that person would make money of of u. Thats how artist would see things and also his lawyer.

So isn’t your real question mash-ups on myspace not acapellas on myspace? Regarding mash-ups on myspace there are tons of people hosting them but as others have said sometimes they are taken down or not given access to be hosted in the first place. I guess this all depends on the person(s) monitoring myspace and weither you can stay beneth the radar so to speak. Some of the mash-up heavy hitters have myspace accounts and even a few of them have had their account deleted but they usually just create a new one etc etc.
So just make an account for this and if it gets deleted make another one and so on and so on.

LuminanceParticipantThanks for all the responses everyone. So from what I’m hearing, you basically just get your song taken down? I can live with that. I just wanted to make sure that I’m not hit with any law suits or anything to that effect. I’m pretty sure no one would want to go through the trouble of wrestling away a piece of my $0.00 profit. I do have a pretty sweet myspace page though…. I’d spend the arduous years in court to defend it!

acheadKeymasteri use acapellas in my "remixs" on my myspace and don’t seem to have a problem ( yet ). although, i don’t get very many hits on it. besides, what’s the differance between using an acapella in a remix, or using un-cleared samples in a dnb track, for instance? both are theoreticly copyright infringment right? i don’t think anyone (with or without lawyer) is going to mess w/ you, if you’re small time. (which i am). also, you may want to check this iffn your truly concerned: http://www.acapellas4u.co.uk/topic6721.html?highlight=

anisinaParticipantI think myspace search the file uploads, rather than searching the pages themselves. My pre-production of ‘I Feel Love’ has been up there for a while now, and it’s mainly because I changed the file name (purposely) from Donna Summer.. to Summer Donna. It was going to be Summer Donna Kebab, but I thought it might be deemed offensive.
So, it looks like it’s a file name search at upload.
