Flashy_2K7ParticipantHello all!
I have a problem with z3ta+. This never happened before but has recently started doing it which is bad becuase z3ta is my favourite softsynth! You see, it works fine when there’s one of them. But when I open up another instance of z3ta or certain presets in the default banks, the sound output coming from both of them gets distorted. The only way to solve this is to delete the second instance! Sometimes, the distortion is minimal (i.e: just a bit of crackling) and sometimes it just completely changes the sound!
I have no idea what to do, and It’s really bugging me! Could anyone help?
thankss~
P.S: I’m using FL Studio 8!

tilldeathdouspartyParticipantIn FL Studio, often having more than one instance open of a CPU intensive program means it slows down, or distorts the sound. Sometimes it sounds like a "click click clicking" in the background. Basically, either your pc needs updating, or Z3ta (i’ve never used it) is CPU intensive and only mean to have one instance open. If you record your track in the finished mp3 or whatever, the clicking and distortion isnt there.

mike001ParticipantI have also had a problem with z3ta but it was in Cubase 4 on a PC & it was more of a Display fault. The only way i could cure this was to switch off Hypertheading & then it was fine.
Hope this is of some help?

HyperstateParticipantIf it is the lack of processing power as described by tilldeathdousparty, you can always alter the quality mode of each instance, eg the default quality should be "standard" or something like that, it can be set to "draft" I think, it won’t give u the same quality of sound but you will be able to run more instances, and change the quality back before you render.

EdwardRParticipantI had and loved z3ta on my old pc. It was one of about 3 things I miss on my mac…anyway.
It does however, have 2 major flaws:
It was originally a Direct-X application, that was then ported into a VST format. I’m guessing it was badly done at code level, because it does have some issues with displays, memory leaks and general performance. Due to its nature it is quite a cpu intensive process, but z3ta is pretty bad compared to similar ‘waveshaping’ engines. The newer Cakewalk products are a lot better. I have Rapture.
3 possible solutions:
a) increase your buffer amount and/or size. This will increase overall system latency, but will give your cpu more time to process the numbers produced by z3ta.
b) USe ‘eco’ mode in z3ta. This turns down the accuracy of some its internal functions in order to make it less cpu intensive. I’m suspecting it probably works with a lower internal resolution for the reverb, delay and comp, whilst maybe losing a couple of bits on the actual synth engine. Remember, you can turn it back up to bounce parts to audio for final mixdown
c) some hardware upgrades. Faster cpu and more memory would help !

RyujiParticipantAre you using ASIO?

acheadKeymasterYes..multiple instances sometimes even crash your DAW if it can´t handle with the amount of processing.. Even can shutdown and reboot your machine… That Blue Screen of Death is very common… lol

tinfoilhatParticipantIf you don’t have one already pick up at least a semi professional audio interface. M-AUDIO makes some really good stuff and so does Presonus. I don’t know abelton exactly but alot of daw programs have a track freeze option. This works to help when working at low latency’s. Essentially it renders a temporary mix for that vst and unloads it from your cpu. If you need to change the sound of that vst later, you can unfreeze and freeze what you already like in the rest of your track. Once again this is a very helpful option when you need to keep a low latency setting. For example when recording your parts. Otherwise once everything is tracked and all hands on automation is complete, go ahead and crank up the latency in your audio driver before starting your vst host.
