theaznbeastParticipantHello all! I’m 20 year old wannabe "DJ" . I have messed with traktor 4s & FL studios in producing. Where do I begin?

blaowskiconoParticipantmake a couple mixes, post em on line, gather a buzz, or go to your local clubs and connect with the people in charge.

djherosnlParticipantPractice is key. If you just keep practicing every day you will get out there eventually. Start out small by doing the music for the parties of your friends for example 😉

YaytzzParticipantGet some kind of internet mixer to get the feel for it, see if it’s for you. Then if you like it consider buying a DJ controller and make some friends.

I’d say this :
– Given that you have the finances to buy a Traktor 4S and still consider yourself a wannabe DJ, you could try to find a DJ giving some lessons. Try one/two times with him, see if you’re learning anything.
– Don’t try to be perfect. You’re starting, you won’t be perfect. Nobody can become perfect, even with 20 or 30 years of practice.
– You have to be booked to feel what it is to be a DJ. What’s the point in practicing 2 years to see that you don’t like public DJing? That’s a key thing. DJing may not be what you think (and if you think that that’s always superstar DJ-like, you’re wrong). But definitely, do some gigs. A private party, with friends eg, is fine; you’ll be able to see if you really like this.My first gig was with 60 people, it was at NYE and I’ve had 30 people dancing at the same time! That feeling you get is pure happiness, even if you’re playing music you don’t particularly like.
And if you want to be booked, there’s not a lot of solutions : go to bar/clubs, talk to the owner and try to see if they often hire or this kind of things.AdSense 336x280February 3, 2014 at 12:18 pm #701845
ConorLorcanParticipantjust practise really

DJNuKastleParticipantAs most people have said, all you can really do is practice a lot. If you have Traktor, get a good controller for it, map it, and then start practicing mixing tech house or deep house to get a feel for beatmatching and phrasing. After a while, you’ll get better and may get recognized, but no promises.
