leeroyparnellParticipantFor those using the knockout vst:

tip 1 –
—-One of the big disadvantages of making a pella with the knockout method is that you end up with a mono acapella (if you get an acapella, at all).
So why not just make it stereo? We can!
If the normal procedure is to mix the instro and regular versions of the songs into a 50/50 mono mix… then channel the instro to the right and reg version to the left… then run it through knockout…
we can add a few steps and make it stereo..
just get your files synched up, then instead of mixing the instro & reg versions at 50-left/50-right, mix it to 100-left/0-right… pan the instro right and the regular version left… mix it down and save as song_name-left.wav
then you repeat that process, except you mix them to 0-left/100-right… run it thru knockout and save as song_name-right.wav
then drop song_name-left.wav and song_name-right.wav into a multitrack mixer… line them up, and pan the left-named one 100 left and the right-named one 100 right.. mix it down and you have a stereo do-it-yourself acapella.

tip 2 –
—-this tip is written for makin mono acapellas:
when you make your pella, and you have too much instromental still left in the beat, instead of trying to Noise Reduce it away, try this method… load the filtered acapella back into your multitrack mixer, line it up with the instromental again, and lower the instromental volume until it matches the remaining music in your filtered acapella… mix it pella 100 left and instro 100 right, then run thru knockout… it should do a better job than any noise reduction filter could.—-
i’m working on a step-by-step knockout tutorial that i will post as soon as i can.
and yes, i know it’s not INSTROMENTAL, just avoiding a filter.

djteknoParticipantI found out a way to make DIY in an easier way, and making mono to stero and clearing up the vocals a bit, just by adding 1 plugin effect and it’s called (Analog X “Vocal Cut”) http://www.analogx.com/contents/downloa … emover.htm I say kn0ck0ut and this go great together, I’ve been using it for my mixing and it’s helped a lot.

leeroyparnellParticipantthat’s a plain old vocal cut, i.e. just the stereo data from a file. running an ms-stereo does the same thing, except that it puts into the proper channels already.
