askingthisParticipantI’m trying to make an acapella for that song (somebody’s watching me), but I can’t seem to find a proper instrumental/normal version for phase cancellation. The only instrumental I could find had a different pitch, and it’s so hard to make it work! Any ideas on what to do? Is there a place I can buy both versions which are identical except one doesn’t have the voice track? :l Thank you

niallspenceParticipantEven if you find the proper version phase cancellation still might not work though right?

Synthetik FMParticipantOne solution … see if you can find an extended 12" mix of the song. Sometimes extended 12" mixes from the 1980’s will have instrumental sections of the verses and chorus that you can place against the vocal bits to cancel out. It won’t always be perfect, but it can work. Have a listen to my acapella for Howard Jones "Things can only get better" on which I used this method, using an extended 12" mix of the song.
I did also find this on youtube:

If you have ACID, it is excellent for this sort of thing. Just load up the instr. and original in ACID, use the beatmapper to get them lined up right, then invert the phase. Keep in mind, if you have it ripped from vinyl, there may be artifacts, so it will take several attempts.
My method to do these sorts of acapellas, is to do as above, lining the instrumental atop the original. Pan one left and one right, do a render.
I then load the split file into Nero Wave Editor. This program has a kickass karaoke filter that will, under these circumstances, isolate vocals, even in many cases where the audio is not 100% matched! Invaluable.
