I asked this question a while back but would like to know if the following would work.
Can I copy folders from my program files to an external hard drive and then copy them from there to a new pc so I don’t have to re-install all my programs?

i’ve done it with some but i’m sure programs which install system files aswell would be a problem
Good question. Moved to the PC section of the forum.
Have a nice day,

I don’t think it’s that easy mate. There’s data in the registry and other hidden folders that will be required for programs to work. If you just move the files from the applications (i think it’s that…i can’t remember, been on a mac for a hella long time) folder to another one it doesn’t guarantee that they will still work.
That only really works with mac apps coz they re-build their library settings and preferences automatically.

That depends whether the install file altered the registry. Lots can be just moved but most cant.
Generally.. your bigger programs or music resources e.g. Trilogy, ACID etc. no can do..
if there just small Execution third party programs then yea.. like already said.. registry files are installed at most installations..
if only life were that easy though..
