Vincent ModestoParticipantHi, hello.
I’m looking for 2 drum breaks:
1. Drums for Kanye West’s "Through the Wire"
2. Drums for P. Diddy’s "Don’t Wanna Know" ft. Mario WynansThe second break was also used for Gangstarr’s "Mass Appeal" among other notable songs.
Who is willing and able to name these 2 for me?

djtopcatParticipantThrough the wire’s drums are just chopped beats on an MPC I think it’s Isaac Hayes-The breakthrough drums
I don’t wanna know sampled the beat from EPMD’s You’re a customer and they originally sampled them from an obscure 70’s country rock record that has a cover with a dude laying down on grass with a weed in his mouth I forget the name. I’ve only seen a couple copies in 15 years.

Vincent ModestoParticipantWhat makes you think Bad Boy sampled EPMD and not the original break?
AdSense 336x280July 23, 2007 at 2:33 am #629428
djtopcatParticipantBecause the original drum break is different Sermon layered another kick over the orig beat and trust me the beat Diddy used is You’re a Customer. There’s a tiny 2 second place where the bassline drops out and it’s just drums I’ve used it on many of my remixes over the years so have other producers and remixers
FYI I used to be a serious beathead back in the day I had to have all of the rock records with open drum breaks I’ve sold rare rock breaks to Kenny Dope,Pete Rock,Ju Ju from the Beatnuts
too many to mention trust me I know my shi*t kid 😉AdSense 336x280July 24, 2007 at 6:31 am #629561
Vincent ModestoParticipantI did my research… The original break is from a song called "Fly Like an Eagle" by Steve Miller Band. And you’re definately right about Bad Boy sampling the EPMD version. The part with just the drums is at the end of the track as the beat fades out.

djtopcatParticipantactually EPMD just used the "Tic tock doo do do do doo" part of Fly like an eagle there’s no open drum breaks or bass in that song the bass guitar was from a Linn drum
sample disk and I’m pretty sure that’s what the final beat was made onI think I sold Pete Kracker or Crosswinds two NW 70’s rock bands with nasty breaks
not sure if he ever used them but he’s a cool dude. My buddy Mr. Supreme of the Sharpshooters traded with him alot.AdSense 336x280July 26, 2007 at 8:47 pm #629846
SeanzaParticipantAre we any further forward with finding out these breaks?
Or are you happy with the answers provided by djtopcat?

djtopcatParticipantEPMD and Mario Winans beat is Alexander Harvey obscure country album on Kama Sutra called "Preshus Child", I don’t think it’s "The Sensational" Alex Harvey but I could be wrong. I believe the track was "Tulsa Turnaround" which usually starts with drums (Kenny Rogers)
