perabdulParticipanti spent about 6 hours reading all the methods yesterday, decided the phase invert method was fair enough, especially considering the albums that i want to make acapellas for, i have all of the instrumentals. i watched a tutorial on youtube on how to do it in audition. i put the instrumental and the regular in seperate tracks, they are both the exact same file size and identical quality. my problem is, i’m having a hell of a time getting them lined up. no matter what, they won’t stay lined up. i’ve done remixes before where the tempo of the acapella changes so i know all about sliding and chopping and whatnot, but this is absolutely infuriating. am i missing something? any help at all would be GREATLY appreciated.

perabdulParticipantok so i came to the conclusion that the pitch is a liiiiiiiiiittle bit different on the instrumental, just a small enough difference to make the beat fall off and make it impossible to keep it lined up. is there any way to adjust the pitch and still make this work, or am i SOL? btw i’m a total audition newbie so if it’s possible to do this in audition, let me know! thanks.

djwickedParticipanttry this method:
put one of the tracks in the Edit View. Go to Effects->Time/Pitch->Stretch and click on Constant Stretch. Copy the value in the LENGTH parameter. Under Stretch Mode, make sure it is under Resample (preserve neither).
Once u obtain this value, do the same for the other track and input that value in the LENGTH parameter. this will stretch or compress the second file giving it the exact same length.
you can now line up the two tracks in the multi-track view.

first, thanks alot for responding. second, i tried your method and it didn’t work. whichever track i tried to "stretch" it just sped it up REALLY fast. maybe im missing a step or doing something wrong?

djwickedParticipantmake sure the "Resample (preserve neither)" option is chosen for both tracks.
the idea is to make both tracks have the exact same length, therefore making the tempo the same.

XeSSiVParticipanti’m also having an issue with phase invert..
got JT’s SexyBack + Instrumental from the same source, same length etc
when instrumental is inverted and played alongside the original, only most of the bass gets cut out, there are still some claps/kicks very audible along with the vocals. i have tried moving one track forward or backward a tiny bit but this just makes the singling out worseAdSense 336x280June 20, 2007 at 10:52 am #626145
LP2ParticipantI think we got the same problem ! lol
Just don’t forget to put the Ratio on "100" ( Unchanged )
Then it works
Peace

perabdulParticipantthat was my problem, i didn’t have the ratio set to 100. alas, it still isn’t working. i believe it is because the volume levels are different, and i’m using mp3s. quite a few variables involved in making this process work.

perabdulParticipantwell, i thought i would never get it, but i finally did. thank you to EVERYONE who helped, it was all greatly appreciated. the thing that finally got it to work was the volume level. i’ve found that if they are not the same volume, it’ just not gonna work.
i dunno how many sage francis fans there are on here but i’m gonna try and do the entre human death dance album and upload it. thanks again!

perabdulParticipantnot only same volume and pitch, but identical quality, and if they are mp3 they probably aren’t gonna work. use high quality wavs.
