djpjParticipantI recently had issues with Digital Performer 5 not launching, after months of great operation. I 1st. deleted and re-installed, no luck launching, 2nd. I un-installed and removed some pref. files and entered a command in the terminal(the command was never found, emptied the trash, ran disk utility, restart and re-install{the info came from a fwd’d Motu tech support email that a registered friend had recived upon having similar issues}). Still no DP?
2 nights ago, for old times sake I decided to launch one of my project files and it started to launch. It was examining all of my audio units(like it does upon first launch after installing new plugs) and opened w/o asking for a serial despite being re-installed a couple of times.
As it was launching!!!!The splash was reading some customized graphitti fonts that I put in as the plugs were loading and Firefox is reading with the same font and all of the sites that I visit (safari is fine).
Instructor at school told me that free fonts can screw up an OS because they sit at the root level.
Any knowledge on this would be appreciated.AdSense 336x280October 31, 2006 at 8:19 pm #601789

SeanzaParticipantThis needs to be moved to the PC SECTION, you’re more likely to get a reply if it’s in the right forum, trust me.
Unfortunately a dunno what Digital Performer is but a can tell you free fonts DO NOT muck up your OS. Unless you’re running on mac beacause a know next to NOTHING about macs.
Am beginning to think this is a mac-related problem. Considering av not heard of DP, you’re using the word "launching" & you’re sayin OS.
Launching is often a term used when referring to how a Mac runs.
But basically, you’re instructor is talking trash. Av never had a problem with fonts & it’s something av been downloading for years & it’s been free. Also don’t use FF, it’s a poor excuse for an Internet browser. Dunno why people prefer it to IE.

Also, check if your fonts are loaded into your font book (applications ->font book) if so, you might want to check the library where they’re stored and have a butchers to see what’s going on.
I get ‘some’ issues with a few poor fonts that have crappy algorithms but that’s only in illustrator/photoshop/etc.
Another thing you could try doing is in font book, turn off the rest of the fonts and only have your standard ‘system’ fonts running, then load FF. if it comes up with an error it should give you alternative options for your fonts or restore it back to default (which can be done, usually in the preferences section of FF)
