tonym_djParticipantHi,
I have recently PURCHASED a Michael Jackson album released in Japan for those crazy karaoke lovers, it’s an official release containing some of MJ’s most famous tracks as instrumentals.
Has anyone else come across any other official instrumental/karaoke releases?
[size size=75:2gq6uwtt]Please Note: this post is not in breach of any laws in the UK and so should not be in breach of any ACAS4U rules or regs. I have not requested anything illegal, in fact the MJ album in question is available on various websites around the world including Amazon. Please do not post any replies which may be deemed illegal, i.e. bitorrent, warez, etc or any unauthorised resellers of instrumentals. Thanks[/size:2gq6uwtt]

tonym_djParticipantUnless someone gives me a explaination as to why this post keeps getting deleted I’m gonna keep posting it.
I could understand if I was requesting illegal instrumentals but I’m not.
It’s not in breach of any rules, it’s in the ‘Audio Chat’ section which when I checked last Instrumentals were audio and it most certainly does not include any illegal information, so get off your high horse and do me a favour give me an explanation or leave it be.

KievParticipantI Couldn’t tell you why your post keeps being deleted is it does not violate any of the Rules
I Haven’t came across any official released instrumental CD’s. I know you can buy Karaoke CD’s dedicated to one particular singer. The other week i saw one with Britney’s songs.

In SilicoParticipantHey tonym_dj.
We don’t really encourage or allow discussion of Instrumental files on this site. If you were to ask, perchance, how do you extract audio from Karaoke CD+G discs or something like that, then it would be a bit more appropriate.
Also, if you have a problem with something like your post getting deleted, please PM one of the mods to ask why instead of reposting it continuously. Thanks a bunch!
EDIT:
After re-reading your original post I think I could better and more technically answer this question.Karaoke CDs that have vocals eliminated or reduced for that purpose are often found in a format called CD+G – these have special tracks with vocal text on them too so they can display the words for you to sing with. These are usually available at any music store if you ask for the Karaoke or CD+G discs. I know the Best Buy in my area carries a few rows of them in the CD section.
As far as I know, the audio portion of a CD+G disc is pretty much a standard audio track like any CD, so you should be able to use any software to import this for editing or mashing-up. As always, please observe any copyright laws that may apply to this music in your country/area.
Cheers – Rob / IS

acheadKeymasterMost of the Karaoke tracks I have heard kinda sound more like a ring tone than an instrumental..
AdSense 336x280July 20, 2006 at 2:50 pm #593832
In SilicoParticipantBugs, these are probably MIDI tracks then.
MIDI is a way to sequence out a string of notes and chords that can be played back through a Synthesizer or Virtual Synthesizer (VSTi). Sometimes, if the synthesizer used is cheap, like in a cell-phone or through Windows Media Player(Built-In Soundcard Synth), it will sound chintzy and ‘ringtone’ like.
The reason these files are used for Karaoke is that often this is the easiest (if not the only) way to get an instrumental version of a song to sing over.
FYI: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MIDI

ProcleusParticipanttony m,
so what tune do you need identified?
AdSense 336x280July 23, 2006 at 5:17 pm #594178
tonym_djParticipantHey thanks for your comments guys,
It’s not one specific tune, just to get a idea of other albums/comps that may be available like the MJ release, if others have found similar it can save a lot of time hunting around.
Like Bugs_capone mentioned a lot of so called karaoke instrumentals are midi files, so really it’s firstly to find out what’s available and secondly what’s good.
I have some of the Sunfly disks which I have managed to convert, unfortunately they sound pretty cheezy and definately not like the original instrumentals, plus a lot of these tracks tend to have the backing tracks in place for obvious reasons, which spoils the instrumental for mash-up use.

ProcleusParticipanttony m,
I’d have to say this topic falls under General. Except you’re looking for imentals which can be done elsewhere, as in not on this website. The Mods here discourage it with good reason, it always leads to folks wanting to trade, and that’s not what this place is about.
AdSense 336x280July 25, 2006 at 12:21 am #594411
tonym_djParticipantWell I don’t want to trade, I want to buy from legitimate sources as in Amazon, itunes store etc.
I understand the importance of discouraging illegal activity, I run an advertising agency there are various legalities we have to follow to ensure our work stays within the law, however, I’m not discussing or requesting anything illegal, the whole point of the internet is to have an open forum where people can discuss openly and freely.
To censor a music forum from discussing instrumentals is ludicrous.
I disagree with your comments of discussing instrumentals elsewhere and the category change, this is the ideal site to discuss instrumentals, acapellas, mash-ups, original productions, techniques etc.
At the end of the day we’re talking about "music" and the last time I checked there was no rule book!
Purhaps if we spent half as much time improving our productions as opposed to discussing pointless formalities we may actually produce something good.

ProcleusParticipantTalk down your nose all you want. There are rules here. Read the FAQ, read the holy grail, and stop dictating. This section is for identifying tunes with only sound samples, people’s knowledge, and internet resources.
And by the way, last time I checked, you haven’t even donated. Put your money where your mouth is!

We discourage the discussing of istrumentals firstly, because we are an acapella site. Admittedly the site has a vast array of topics with regards to audio production etc. which one is correct in thinking that vocals and istrumentals go hand in hand.
Secondly looking at your joining date, I don’t think you were a member when last year we had a real terrible time with a group of members requesting, trading and posting instrumentals all over the site, they have now been banned and this rule and the consequences will remain in force for, well, for ever.tonym_dj wrote:Well I don’t want to trade, I want to buy from legitimate sources as in Amazon, itunes store etc.I have just done a google search for "Karaoke tracks " and there is a vast variety of places to get them from

I am still thinking on wether to delete this post or not. It appears to me that you have made a request and it does involve and instrumental.
tonym_dj wrote:At the end of the day we’re talking about "music" and the last time I checked there was no rule book!Yeah, but have you read our rule book?

Procleus I do have to apologise, it was me who moved this topic. I moved it before I actually read and understood the whole thingI have moved it back to "General" thanks for pointing it out to me.
AdSense 336x280July 25, 2006 at 10:03 pm #594543
tonym_djParticipantI appreciate the explaination, I now fully understand why the discussion of instrumentals is banned, it’s very annoying when a minority spoil it for the rest.
If you feel the post should be deleted that’s absolutely fine and it’s your decision to make, however, can I make the suggestion that this subject is perhaps edited down and put into a closed topic of "why we don’t discuss instrumentals" for those mere mortals like myself that were unaware of illegal trading can read a sensible reason as opposed to the "don’t talk about instrumentals because we said so" approach.
Another suggestion is to have a closed topic with links to sites that do allow instrumental discussions, at least this way there will be a happy medium.
I enjoy reading/posting comments on this site and I apprecate the time and effort of all of the mods and if I have got anyones back up with my comments on this topic I do apologise.
Keep up the good work guys.
AdSense 336x280July 26, 2006 at 5:14 am #594560
DJ ValParticipantNo worries tonym_dj. I certainly will suggest to Admin about posting up a closed topic as to why we don’t allow the discussion of instrumentals. I t really is such a shame that a handful of members did spoil things for the majority of us. Like I said before, instrumentals and vocals do go hand in hand and certain situations make it impossible to hold a genuine discussion when one is not allowed to discuss instrumentals.
Believe me if we did allow discussions of such topics it would lead to the discussion of trading etc.
Anyways thank you for your understanding and support.
Take care

ProcleusParticipantHey Val,
You don’t have to apologize for anything! I support your decision to move it originally, and you couldn’t have forseen it getting off topic again. I guess you just have a better touch in explaining things. Seems like when I try, it just makes it worse. Bummer.Everyone! Three cheers for Val!

The CutterParticipantHi tonym_dj,
As Val said it was unfortunate about what was going on with this site last year and the total disrespect some of the members had for the site rules.
Even though some of the rules may not make perfect sense to you they are put in place for many reasons. You may not like the rules sometimes but you have to respect those that are made if you want to participate in this forum.
But I do know where you are coming from.
Have a nice day,
Mr. C.
