chitownsfinest321ParticipantHey everyone. I am a newbie to acapella making, but not to music editing so i understand the technique. My issue is with finding the instrumental tracks. I can find some on itunes and amazon but the selection is limited and the rest i find are bad midi versions. So where do all of you find the instrumentals to make the awesome acapella songs i am hearing? Help the new guy out.

As for instrumentals I would suggest searching google. There’s bound to be some sites out there to help you.

ChunkyEatsMyDinnerParticipantThe original promo CDs often have them, in the UK music fairs are an endless resource of original promos.

chitownsfinest321ParticipantThanks for the info. I do have a theory i would like to toss out there. Since phase inversion is used to create the acapellas by inverting the music, could you take the acapellas and do the same thing inverting the existing acapella to remove the vocals?
Ideas or comments?

In theory yes, the only variables would be the vocal on the original track could be quite different from the pella.
For example, if a single band compressor is used on the master output/ complete track, the vocal will be compressed during the
parts the instruments activate the compressor.
Then the acapella is bounced/ exported from the project individually this will have none of the additional processing.
This would vary results during the phase reversal process.Best bet is to give it a try

chitownsfinest321ParticipantSo i have been trying my theory on audacity and sound studio for the mac and i cannot seem to get it to work it any capacity. I have taken two track one instrumental one regular song converted them both to the same format and inverted the instrumental track and got bupkis. It just sounds like the same song. I have tried using an acapella and a regular song with the same results. i don’t get it what am i doing wrong?

chrismoraleParticipantthey have to be 1000 percent identical. that means in every imaginable way.
same bpms, same quality, same length, arrangement identical eqs, mastering etc.
the only difference that should be between the original and the beat is the vocals. that is it.
i have got it to work a few times here and there.
only way i can prove THIS theory and my findings to you correct is….go and search for a maxi single zip of any song.
9 times out of 10, the maxi single or single will have the beat and the original in one folder.
try it then.AdSense 336x280June 23, 2012 at 7:26 am #693407
TiMGParticipantif you can’t find an instrumental you can sometimes get a result by chopping up bits of the track without any vocal to make a kind of instrumental track… then use kn0ck0ut to filter it from the original
