leeroyparnellParticipantHere’s some info on some of my latest uploads. Perhaps the info can help some of the hopeful acapella makers get a start with some practice.
———————————————————————————–
eric_clapton_-_wonderful_tonight_(diy_leeroyparnell_acapella).mp3
eric_clapton_-_lay_down_sally_(diy_leeroyparnell_acapella).mp3
eric_clapton_-_cocaine_(diy_leeroyparnell_acapella).mp3All three of these were made using the center channel from a DTS-CD of Eric Clapton’s "Slowhand" album. There was some headphone bleed into the microphone, but the vocals are so strong and clear I didn’t want to hurt their quality by dulling the background noise. Tools used: foobar with foo_dts.dll and Adobe Audition 2.0
———————————————————————————–———————————————————————————–
the_beatles_-_revolution_(diy_leeroyparnell_acapella).mp3One again, a DTS CD was used. I dropped the 6 tracks into Audition, mixed the front and rear tracks while using the mixer to play with the "Center Channel Extractor" realtime, and ended up with a rather good result, definitely useable.
———————————————————————————–———————————————————————————–
elvis_presley_-_return_to_sender_(diy_leeroyparnell_acapella).mp3I used two different versions of this song (stereo recordings) to make this one. One is apparently an alternate mix released at some point (found online) and between the two I was able to use Waves X-Noise and Audition’s Center Channel Extractor to find a good medium between the elimination of music and clarity of vocals
———————————————————————————–———————————————————————————–
dire_straits_-_money_for_nothing_(diy_leeroyparnell_acapella).mp3This was again accomplished using a 5.1 channel DTS mix. The front center channel contained the drums, bass and vocals, and one of the other channels had the drums and bass (though quieter). I used the Center Channel Extractor to eliminate the drums and bass (though not entirely, as you’ll hear). I tend to worry more about notes than percussion, because if you’re a good mixer, the drums will blend much easier than inharmonious notes will.
———————————————————————————–———————————————————————————–
queen_-_killer_queen_(studio_acapella).mp3Obviously, I didn’t make this acapella by deconstructing the song. But it is sort-of DIY. Somewhere on the internet, you will stumble across a session file of the entire mix of this song, with EACH INSTRUMENT ON A SEPARATE TRACK. The vocals are even split up across approximately 5 tracks. I listened very carefully to the original track and worked this version up to match the volume and panning of the original. If there is interest, I can upload an alternate acapella that doesn’t have the background vocals mixed in as loudly (they can detract from a mix). Not really a DIY acapella here, but interesting nonetheless.
———————————————————————————–Stay tuned for more!

otgParticipantThanks for your efforts, both in making the acapellas and writing notes on how you did it, I found them useful and they’ve given me some ideas.
