SolarliteParticipantHere’s one of my latest remixes of Nas’ "It Aint Hard To Tell".
The beat is made entirely by me, using Fl Studio.
One thing I think you’ll notice is that the genre is neither here nor there, another thing being the poor production. Producing my tracks is something I struggle with; ideally, I need somebody to help with this, preferably show me how it’s done, so I can do it myself.
Please leave a comment. Even if you call it complete and utter 5h!t, I’ll take it as constructive criticism, not offense.
Thanks for listening.

elmatticParticipantReally nice beat–good drums and love the mournful sound.
But I can barely hear the vocals, and they’re all off beat…

SolarliteParticipantThanks for the quick reply.
You say the vocals are all off beat, do you mean ALL the vocals, or the third verse? I have lined them up to exactly where they would have been in the original song and I agree, the third verse doesn’t sound right, as if it lets the rest down…
As for the vocals being quiet, I find that very odd, to say the least. I’m sure it must be the differences in our setups. It sounds absolutely fine on mine, but that is what second opinions are for, I guess.
Ta.

SeanzaParticipantI like it, but there are some timing issues, really like the powerful synth, it’s kl, maybe it over powers the vocals though. And some of it sounds quite plastic (the buzz synth you’ve got in there), also there are long long longggg gaps with no lyrics which is kinda boring.

GMoneyParticipantThe beginning with that synth is hot man, fer sure. It got my attention. Nice progression you have going with it. Props on the musicality.
The beat (kick/clap) is good but it sits way too low in the mix. Needs to be way louder. When the beat kicks in, it should smack me in the face. I was definitely waiting for it after that synth intro. I don’t know anything about FL so don’t know how you go about doing that exactly.
I’d say it’s still a solid mix, it does sound like on the 3rd verse there’s some timing issues.
A solid production though, good work on the beat.

SolarliteParticipantOh yeah, I see what you mean about the beat being too low down, that shall be rectified.
As for the timing, that’s been sorted. I thought I had it as good as it’ll go, being off-beat due to Nas’ style, but in the second verse, what I thought was the first syllable was actually a deep breath! The third verse is quite tricky, but I think I have it sussed.
The plastic sound is not deliberate, it is just due to my lack of knowledge in making synths sound good, I’m sure it’ll improve over time.
The long gaps, on the other hand, were deliberate. They’re meant to be a break, rather like in the original, which I thought worked quite well. I shall take a look and see what I can do, though.
Thanks for all the positives and negatives.

KallekufiskParticipantI have to agree with the others, I really like the melody and the mood of the track, but I think that you should turn the drums up to make it more powerful and make the rhythm of the track more crisp and defined! Also the lyrics would use some volume adjustment, but I do like what I’ve heard this far. Maybe try a little bit of mastering on the track also?
Anyway, good work pal. Be sure to check out my latest track! [url:jo7eqxry]http://www.acapellas4u.co.uk/topic47873.html[/url:jo7eqxry]

acheadKeymasteri to agree with all…synth are overpowering the vocal….drums are coming in weak….overall not a bad job…just need miner adjustments….
