MrD^ParticipantI was wondering if anyone could tell me what the best option is, on an macbook, to produce music logic or ableton? I used to work with fruityloop on pc.

MrD^ParticipantI’m gonna try logic, i’ll see what it gives. Now i’m using garageband, because it came with the macbook :p, but i’ll go get logic. Thx for the opinions.

lev1ukParticipantAbleton live 6 is real good
AdSense 336x280July 15, 2007 at 11:17 pm #628885
fingersParticipantIf you have the money go with logic. It has better instruments and better effects and more of them. Ableton 6 is still very good though.

DiscodunkParticipantI would say logic
AdSense 336x280August 2, 2007 at 5:35 pm #630348
JuggernautParticipantI’ve got both. And i use both. Seeing that i’m still on a G4 powerbook, i can assure you that they work a treat on a macbook.
Live will be more similar to the interface of Fruityloops, whilst previously mentioned Reason would be quite a good option too.
Thing is, there’s a good few hundred Quid/Bucks/Yen/Shekel/Lira etc. between a full on Logic package and Abelton Live.
I’d personally start off with Abelton Live, then get Reason as you can re-wire this into Abelton. Once you’ve got the hang of that (or if you feel you’ve got a good grasp of how Garageband works), then look at getting Logic as your next step up (keep your other programs).
You can either get Logic Express 7 or Logic 7 at the moment. Version 8 will be coming out soon.
The express version isn’t so bad (that’s what i’ve got on here) but obviously if you’ve got the money (and the ram and hard drive space) the full on version is way better (and intergrates with FCP a lot better, i find)

SteelzukParticipantThere’s no match for logic! Is there any other program where you Can build your own environment? Nothing better!
AdSense 336x280December 4, 2007 at 3:19 am #638400
jefpeaceParticipantYeah, but which has the lowest learning curve? I’m an old dog and new tricks don’t come so easily as with the young pups.
I’ve produced half a dozen albums using a combination of Magix Music Maker and Goldwave and it’s time I moved up, but I hesitate to drop a ton of money on software without knowing I’ll be able to use it in a relatively short time.
AdSense 336x280December 4, 2007 at 9:23 am #638421
JuggernautParticipantAbleton definately has a lower learning curve than Logic. But unfortunately it’s still a little steep….that’s where the internet comes in to save the day
AdSense 336x280December 4, 2007 at 7:37 pm #638458
berridgeabParticipantI never used Logic so couldn’t comment but Ableton Kicks ass from what I have played with.
AdSense 336x280December 5, 2007 at 6:33 pm #638540
Chris EssParticipantgotta be logic, its the most powerful SAW for mac
AdSense 336x280December 23, 2007 at 4:31 am #639920
djdoublecParticipantI recommend Logic Pro 8
AdSense 336x280December 24, 2007 at 5:30 am #640051
JbOyParticipantAbleton for the win m8
AdSense 336x280December 28, 2007 at 4:59 am #640277
luiParticipantI don’t know logic, but I currently have Reason 4 rewired through Ableton and I really, really like it. I don’t care for Ableton’s instruments much, maybe I’ll appreciate them more later, but Reason’s instruments are so sweet. Also, Reason’s midi sequencer kind of sucks (improved with 4 though) but Ableton’s sequencer is so sweet. Combined is one powerful setup for sure.

hamburgerParticipantI use ableton Live and I love it has a few nice tricks I’ve never used Logic but it does have more pro instruments and effects out of the box.
AdSense 336x280January 14, 2008 at 6:31 pm #641361
maniacalParticipantimo, LOGIC all the way. i’ve used both, though my ableton experience was very limited so i prolly cant be the best source for it.
i’m a huge believer in logic. if you’ve been using reason or fruity loops or acid it’ll take a little learning curve but its time well invested! you’ll be glad you put it in.
AdSense 336x280January 14, 2008 at 7:27 pm #641366
larry whiteParticipantLOgic rules
AdSense 336x280January 18, 2008 at 12:57 pm #641511
DJFusilliParticipantPeople are only going to say which program they prefer for the sort of work that they do. If you want a serious answer to this question, you need to specify exactly what sort of music you’re working with and in what context, because both programs are pretty much the best at what they do, and they do different things.
AdSense 336x280January 20, 2008 at 6:41 am #641578
hkerinsParticipanti personally use and love Logic for producing tracks, I was wondering if anyone uses it to DJ live and if so, how?
AdSense 336x280January 20, 2008 at 7:46 pm #641610
krwlngindarknessParticipantLogic.
AdSense 336x280January 20, 2008 at 7:49 pm #641613
krwlngindarknessParticipantI’m actually going to say use another program, i’m not sure if your macbook can handle logic.
AdSense 336x280January 23, 2008 at 6:25 am #641807
goosetkd08Participanti heard that logic is the best out there. specialy from my electronic music teacher at school
AdSense 336x280March 28, 2008 at 1:36 pm #646650
DjDavey2007ParticipantI used to have logic (an old version – 5 something i think) and Live on my PC and much prefered Logic, then switched to mac and stuck with Logic – Much Prefer it!
AdSense 336x280April 1, 2008 at 10:09 pm #646938
jaycool9ParticipantCan you get logic on PC?? If not then what is the best PC programme to go with instead?
Thanks
JamieAdSense 336x280April 2, 2008 at 12:48 am #646959
anisinaParticipantUnless you get your mitts on some OS X and learn how to install it on PC then NO. You will likely need to install some hardware that is needed by Logic and recognised as apple.
Google for OS X on PC. 😉
AdSense 336x280July 7, 2008 at 8:06 am #652938
diamondsandgoldParticipantWhat plug ins would you recommend for Ableton Live?
