fgp303Participant[quote quote="J-MAC":2gqskow3]i dont think pro tools will run on a 14″ ibook… http://www.digidesign.com check the tech spec on there…
well i dont think so anyway…[/quote:2gqskow3]If u check u will see it will run! In standard way only the Protools LE cos the TDM cards need PCI slot but if u connect magma chasis to ur ibook it will work well teh TDM ones.

smart1123ParticipantTry Ableton Live, Garageband is a toy (no support for vst’s, no plugin automation and huge cpu load even on my buddies G5 1.8Ghz), I know a bunch of guy’s who used to use Acid on PC but won’t look back after trying Live

housefly88ParticipantI use Pro tools on an I book.
Digidesign “M-Box” will work just fine.AdSense 336x280March 23, 2005 at 6:38 pm #570100

between us ableton is bad just have price and garageband are free which is good for home users…
Secondly for the ableton price u can buy Logic Express 7 or almost can buy Mbox with arrive with Protools LE… i think ableton is good for live act but for me its not to important.

Plug in automation?…don’t see any, how about that CPU load, try loading up 24 tracks in Garageband and see how fast your computer reacts to anything you do. Admittedly Garageband is free and has a large selection of prestocked and free loops availiable, but for what I do it’s just not powerful enough.
If you read my signature you’ll find I’m more than familiar with protools, and have used Logic also for 7+ years. I got Ableton this year and have been at least twice as productive, but I work with alot of loops and rewire. If you’re only going to have one piece of software then I would say protools for sheer audio power, but if you want a quick learning curve I would stay away from both ‘tools and logic.
fgp303 have you fully delved Ableton, if not I recommend (friendly) that you take the time to investigate it, it’s not just for timestretching the session views and the power of clips are not to be underestimatedAdSense 336x280March 23, 2005 at 7:50 pm #570104
fgp303ParticipantFor me protools is simply not fir to my life cos 2 trouble i dont hate protools hd yet and i cant run PT and i think if i will have PT hw i will run on logic which will oki for me. Another thing i try another apps but its simply not fit to my production. I use lots of additional environment for control xternal gears like synth or fx and its easier for me from logic.
but back to garageband i dont know Plug in automation is supported or not cos i dont try this but i can draw some autation datas maybe plugins automation is not in this but what ever its free. I try the 24 track but my system easily work with taht so i cant accept this but i say again its free and so many peoples never pick up money from home audio things so why buy it something else….
… and one another things i never say ableton is not good i just say its not good for me + for that money i can choose better apps, thats all :S

smart1123Participantfair, for me it rocks, no need for the environment, used to use it to control my mc-303, haven’t turned that box on since I got reason
AdSense 336x280March 23, 2005 at 11:19 pm #570114
smart1123ParticipantAnyways if you’re looking at an Mbox or digi 002 protools system they come free with a lite version of both Live and Reason (they just announced an upgrade to the lite version of Live) and I understand the upgrades to the full versions are quite cheap

[/quote:2o454q08]No it’s not TDM, or Logic however 6.7 has some good looking MIDI upgrades, and if you’re getting started you’re not likely to be remapping LSBN messages in the near future
