Key of acapellas

great idea but please bare in mind that some ( not all ) acapellas are vinyl rips and may not have been recorded at zero pitch on the turntables so even if you find the correct key of the vocal you are using it could be pitched up or down , i was caught out on this once doing a bootleg mix of olive ‘your not alone’ , i figured out the key of the song then used the acapella downloaded from this site so i assumed all was in key then had some people say ‘the vocals are out of tune’ took me ages to figure out what was wrong but had a friend who had the acapella on vinyl which i re-recorded at zero pitch and ‘bingo’ everything then sat perfectly in key… now i am very aware of downloaded acapellas that have vinyl crackle cos you never know where the pitch was when it was ripped…

so any updates?

As you know we don’t currently hold the acapella key in the collection as there is no accurate and more importanly automated way to do this. So, unless we were able to hook up with a similar site who had the data then one way we could do this is to potentially create a brand new ‘group’ within the community. And it would be up to you guys to add the key of the acapellas into the system.

Obviously there are plenty of technicalities involved, but that’s for us to worry about.

I can deffinitly figure out what root note a singer is singing. Especially
if its in acapella as to where i just play the piano till i have the key

this thread is now 3 years old, but nothing had changed in terms of "searching acapella by key"

I know that using mixed in key would be far from perfect, but I’d prefer having that information over no key information at all. I’d also like to be able to search by key. There are a number of times where I start making a track and then wish I had a vocal to use with it. It would be nice to sort through acapellas that are in the same key as my project until I find one that fits nicely.
