djshadesukParticipantSorry if this is not >quite< the right forum section to put this in… but it is Apple related I guess!!
I’m transfering all my friends music from her old iPod Nano to her new Nano (a widescreen one) and in the process I’m sorting out all the artist/title/album tags. I also want to add artwork for as many of the files as possible (by embedding directly in the audio files).
Now I must tell you that I’m not a fan of iTunes to say the least (especially because of its insistance that QuickTime must be installed too) so I use WinAMP to manage the audio on both the PC and iPod, which does quite an admirable job… until it comes to artwork!
While WinAMP does not support the direct embedding of images into MP3/M4A files it will show images already embedded in files so I have to use a nice little program called mp3tag. As expected the images appear in WinAMP and on the iPod… However…
On the iPod the artwork for the first track I play WILL appear but if I skip to the next (or subsequent tracks in for example a playlist of 20 tracks all with embedded images) no artwork is displayed. If I skip back to the first track (which initially showed its artwork) that too will now not appear!! If I go back out of the "Now Playing" screen and select ANY of those 20 tracks the artwork will display only for the first time of being played… skip backwards or forwards… no artwork. Go back to the first track played… no artwork!!!
Aaarrrggghhh!
Does anyone else have this problem?
Thanks!

djshadesukParticipantProblem solved!
Out of curiousity I tried the original (third party) implementation of the iPod plugin for WinAMP (before WinAMP decided to do their own version) and waddayaknow… It turns out that its WinAMPs own lously iPod intergration that was causing the problem due to, by the looks of it, not updating the iPods databases properly. WinAMPs own iPod plugin has been unceremoniously dumped… its not even been sent to the recycle bin it was that bad… and has been replaced by a plugin called ml_ipod. Its roughly got around a gazillion more features than the official WinAMP plugin and is far, far more compatible.
Now… if only there was a way to update an iPods firmware without iTunes!
