nikhilbectorParticipanti use Firefox. IE doesn’t work properly on my computer for some strange reason.
AdSense 336x280April 18, 2007 at 5:42 pm #619133
becauseimjayParticipantI love IE, but FF gives me that advantage to download things you’re not usually able to download from IE. For example, there’s something i want from youtube, lets say a video on sample inversion. FF would allow me to download that vid, unlike IE.

Kreivi_KrapulaParticipantFirefox beats IE anytime.

MidarezakiParticipantFF all the way for me (I’m a Linux user).
I’ve yet to see a machine which got IE7 via Windows Update that isn’t terminally broken in one way or another. My sister’s machine just refused to boot after that got installed, the fix was to backup her files using a Linux CD, load the restore discs I’d created then reinstate her files. Oh, and tell Windows Update (and my sister) that under no circumstances was IE7 to go anywhere near her machine.) Other breakage seen includes the file-browser side of things just not displaying certain components (randomly between filenames and the directory tree, for example), and apart from reloading the machine from scratch there appears to be no way to fix this. Firefox has never done that to any machine!

IE7 only works for 5 mins on my pc then it crashes due to a "critical error xD"AdSense 336x280August 28, 2007 at 7:44 am #632607
CornerstoneParticipantFirefox is faster, it brings a lot of plugins and it didn’t change any other applications on your computer.

J035u5ParticipantI couldn’t live without my plugins anymore, so I will never migrate from Firefox. Adblock, Zotero, Googlemail manager, bugmenot, downthemall, foxytunes and stumbleupon are 7 things I use daily.
People who use IE are just asking for viruses. Too many security risksAdSense 336x280April 11, 2008 at 9:23 am #647717
DJ_GreenleafParticipantFirefox, all the way.
It’s customizable, and without the plug-ins,
I don’t know what I’d do.
I.E. is slowwwwwww and it gives me way too many problems.AdSense 336x280April 12, 2008 at 4:27 pm #647776
NicodemusParticipantI think Firefox is way better than Internet Explorer. Basically for the same reasons as most people, it runs alot smoother & faster, the ad-ons, & the customizable themes.
But recently I’ve been using Apple’s Safari browser. Even though it’s kinda plain looking as far as the toolbar & all that, it’s actually been running better than FIrefox.
The color in Safari seem to be more vibrant, all text and images are really clear and colorful, more-so than in any other browser.AdSense 336x280July 7, 2008 at 10:02 am #652962
diamondsandgoldParticipantFirefox has better features and less ads than IE.

p.illaParticipantWhetever you choose to do, make sure that you have either or, not both of them at the same time. That could be a problem.

acheadKeymastersometimes Fire fox has problems like with Java and videos. If you use the internet for watching videos and stuff it would be crazy as hell. in that case I would pick the IE but still…

AdSense 336x280March 15, 2009 at 9:46 am #665475
jakashParticipantI think its more or less mutual for anyone who has tried firefox and gotten into it – You can pretty much make your own perfect browser with all the add-ons availible…

CDAParticipantI prefer FF to IE. I’m a web developer and find IE to be quite buggy when it comes to JavaScript and some css. I develop with IE8 and FF 3.0.

damuhParticipantIE is crap.
Slow, unsecure, spyware.AdSense 336x280April 3, 2009 at 1:52 pm #666229
pduKeymasterIE is a bugger for breaking standards a lot, although they have been working to improve this. For those of you who are unaware, css and html/xhtml (and more besides) are the languages used to write web pages, these languages are governed by the W3C (http://www.w3.org) who dictate what commands must be available and how they should work.
Opera/Safari/Konqueror all have about the best support for CSS, followed by FireFox with IE coming in a sick last. Javascript (now correctly known as ecmascript) has (imo) the best support in FireFox, followed by the CSS 3, and again IE limping home like a lame duck.
Why do sites therefore seem broken? a lot of web developers develop their sites and test in IE, then they check FireFox and try to ‘fix it so it works’ and then launch. As a result of that practice, whilst IE is buggy, there is a huge amount of blame to lay at the feet of those who continue to break standards support in their development process and thus let IE get away with it.
If you are developing a site that you care about, you should develop and test it using Opera + DragonFly (a debug tool like FireBug) until its perfect. Then test your site in FireFox as its 2nd on the standards list and fix it for any FF quirks, then lastly, make IE work. It’s also worth avoiding ugly ‘css hacks’ wherever possible as a future release of IE has a habit of breaking their own hacks.
Yes, the above sounds longwinded and it is, but its your best chance of creating a site that works on any browser, looks identical and encourages browser developers to work hard on fixing their bugs, rather than packaging shoddy new features at the expense of existing broken code.
Lastly, plugins are a mixed blessing, they do add functionality and help keep the browser more lightweight, but you are still installing potentially untrusted software on your PC, they can cause crashes which are irritating, or malicious damage. After all that, which do I use? I’m a FireFox man, I prefer it as a browser to Opera even though their standards support is better, but I still develop for Opera first. Just my 2 cents

DirtydBParticipantFirefox is much better than IE. However, Firefox crashes on me all the time and its really annoying.
AdSense 336x280June 15, 2009 at 8:27 am #668805
pduKeymasterThen I’d give opera a try if I were you, if pressed I can’t actually give a good reason for using FF over Opera, the reason I use FF is one I couldn’t really put my finger on if I tried. It’d be easiest to say it’s the interface, but I even really like Opera’s interface. It’s lighter on memory usage too.
