kaipaoParticipanthey there!
today i was trying to make a quick and easy acapella from a tech house tune, just a spoken word.
anyways, i took two parts of the song with the same groove, one with the voice, the other without and phased one of them (the 2nd) both L and R.
this is done in Live with Utility, fyi.everything works perfect but the hi hats!
they still plays and i can’t use a gate without losing quality on the voice.
same shit with an LP filter.do you think is possible to sample each hat and try to process the dirt wav with sequenced hats phased?
err, way complicated, isn’t it?thanks in advance,

DjFoyBoyParticipantu want to invert the track with out the voice. line both tracks up. add high pass filter. and play

I think the technique in question is the ‘knockout’ method.
Dont ask if it will work… try it! Will work on some tracks but not allAdSense 336x280July 1, 2010 at 12:54 pm #680691
DjFoyBoyParticipantit was just "another" suggestion, thats all.

DjFoyBoyParticipantthat is so true. anyway i was under the impression it was just a word or two that was required out of the song. im sure theres a part of the track thats exactly the same as the part with the spoken word..(but obviously with out it. lol) that could be used

kaipaoParticipantyep DJFoyBoy, exactly.
and that’s what i did, i took a 2bar loop without the voice and a 2bar loop with the voice, lined phased and played, but hi hats still are playing.AdSense 336x280July 3, 2010 at 9:43 am #680742
DjFoyBoyParticipantwell if the knock out method didnt work either then the only other thing i can suggest is to download a program called Goldwave. This has a filter option that enables you to select part of the wav/mp3/file i.e the hi hats, it will then go throught the whole wav/mp3/file and try to filter out anysound that is similar. The outcome varies.

DjFoyBoyParticipant….sometimes it works and sometimes it doesnt….cant remember wot effect it will have on the vocal tho.
Just had a another thought, not sure if this would work either…but is there maybe part of the track thats just the hi hats that you could use to invert against your vocal? Even if it means doing it one hat a time?
