WillyColeParticipantPeace,
I tried the DIY method of inverting the inst and overlaying.
I used SoundForge to flip it, and Acid 4 to lay out.
It worked REALLY well, but not enough to remix with – still a fair amount of extra noise. I was using mp3s, now I want to try with wav files as suggested somewhere online.
How do you get a wav file from a real cd? – I have a cd with an original mix and an inst.
I have cdclone and Nero, I’m not sure if those programs have the capabilities or not. Can you suggest how to do it with any of the programs I have?
Or, is there another way to ‘rip’? songs from a cd TO my hard drive?
Thanks,

coojuiceParticipantIf you insert your disc into your drive and choose "open files" when prompted you should be able to simply copy and paste the file to your hard drive.

WillyColeParticipantThanks for the feedback.
If I do that it pastes something called a .cda file. It does nothing useful.
Do you maybe have a cracking program that makes this possible for you with write-protected cds? Can you suggest one to me?
Thanks again,

BoozaParticipantThere are certain programs that enable you to create an audio file like mp3 or wav from a cda file.
The most simplest way to do this is using a new version of Windows Mediaplayer. There’s a tab for Ripping audio to your HD. Just insert the CD and go to that tab and then you simply have to select the files you like to rip.
If this does not work, one other way to do it is using Audition/Cool Edit pro or Soiundforge. Play the cda files and record in this program. So easy

WillyCole[/quote:2iw10am1]Whatever you do, don’t go down the ‘crack’ route around here. Also known as warez.
CDA files are the specific format of ‘Compact Disc Audio’ hence the .cda. If you extract/import the files, you should be able to play them, and edit them just as with a .wav of .aiff.
Hope that helps.

WillyColeParticipantThe extraction thing in SoundForge worked.
I’m wondering Asinisa, why shouldn’t I use a cracking program? Is that cause it’s bad to do, or does it damage the file?
Thanks to all who responded,

WillyCole[/quote:3iau1jtv]Cracked programs are dodgy at best, they can corrupt systems and all manner of baddness can occur.
Also it’s a topic matter that is not acceptable on this site. For grabbing music from CDs try this Freeware program (I’ve been using it for years now)
http://www.audiograbber.com-us.net/
You can also use Audio Grabber to convert Wav to mp3

Just a reminder, to anybody, that isn’t aware, regarding the Holy Grail
[quote quote="acapellas4u Holy Grail":3lv1cul7]N E W :: M E M B E R S
11. No WAREZ discussion or illegal P2P file sharing. Anyone trying it on be it publicly or privately (via private message) will be banned and ejected from the site.[/quote:3lv1cul7]
PS. That isn’t specifically aimed at you WillyCole but you may be surprised at how many members (mainly new) miss that bit, and then try to pass info on. And, we can’t miss an opportunity to raise awareness of the rules.
Anyway, end of any warez & p2p discussion, and back to CD extraction.
Take care.

WillyColeParticipantWow, I read those rules, I didn’t even realize that that topic would be illegal! Sorry, and thanks for the advice/program download.
Peace,
