DJ LMA aka DJ LeethalParticipantI got Fruityloops Version 4 and I’ve had it for a year and a half so far. I remember looking all over the place for a kick ass music creator, the first that I came across WAS Fruityloops… but I saw it and tried to use some of it’s features so make some music but it was so complicated. So I found another music maker that was easier and was more on my level of how to make music, which was the famous ejay software. I played with that shit forever but then I mastered that and was very bored with such a limited amount of what you can do with the program. So I went back and downlo…
… I mean got FL 4 and hoped that I was able to challenge myself to try to figure out this program. I must of tried so many different things for months. Until I found out what I was doing, and now I can do so much with FL that the boundrys of the program are limitless. I LOVE Fruityloops so much. I just wanted to comment on the program cause I have been wanting to make songs and patterns and melodies for so long. Also, I found what y’all was saying about how some patterns and the way they sound can sound too “arcade” like and I completly agree. You just have to tweek wit some of it’s feature to get the exact sound of the loop you got going. There still is more for me to discover with this wonderful program but in time I know I will figure it out. Besides that the only problem I have at the current moment is that I cannot get pass a simple loop. I mean I can put together a beat and rock it out with some synth but I cannot move pass that. I cannot transverse the song to actually becoming a song. I wonder if I need to fade sound out and bring in new ones. I think thats what I gotta do. I’m not sure, I do need help on that one. Also, I heard that Version 5 is not that great. Is it true? Hit me back y’all..with messages….music you’ve made. Just whatever.
Oh yeah and is it just me or is it SUPER difficult to create hip hop tracks with Fruityloops? And where can I download more packs, to get new sounds to use?
Like I said, y’all hit me back.
Peace.

ddoubleParticipanta producer is only as good as his samples!
fruity is a great sequencer though!

junoParticipantI dont know everything about FL but I dont think you cant automate. If you want a loop to have even the slightest difference in volume or FX anywhere in the song you have to copy it to another channel and change it. Its good for making beats and loops but no automation lines to change the FX = not a very good sequencer. Correct me if I’m wrong.
AdSense 336x280February 21, 2005 at 4:05 pm #568917
ddoubleParticipantu can adjust the volume of indivual notes very easily in the piano roll mode.
u can assign filters to indivual notes and all sorts of other effects extremely simply.
*edit just re-read what u wrote and i see what your saying, but copying to a new line only takes a matter of seconds and is exactly like making a ghost copy like you would in any other program
AdSense 336x280February 21, 2005 at 5:19 pm #568921
junoParticipanttrue – dont get me wrong – i love my fruity loops and its one of the best loop creation softwares I’ve used. I’m just saying that as far as sequencing goes its more efficient to adjust a point on an automation line than it is to copy the loop then edit it multiple times. If you want a buildup of an effect like delay you can’t easily do this in FL – thats why I think its not the best sequencer.
AdSense 336x280February 22, 2005 at 1:06 am #568935
james23452Participantfruity loops i think is best if used to make skeleton beats real fast and maybe import it to cubase or reason to expand on your initial idea. the hardest thing about fruity loops is building up a good sample library so you dont have to use the instruments it came with.

junoParticipantJames……you’re exactly right!
You get a cookie.
AdSense 336x280February 22, 2005 at 4:44 am #568939
james23452Participantmost “dirty south” sounds rely on synths (david banner, lil jon, mannie fresh) i believe with crazy snares or hi hats
theres a lot of soul sample type beats out (kanye, heatmakers)
the west has a funk twist to it but that sound seems to be fading out
these may be off but thats how i like to think of them

DJ LMA aka DJ LeethalParticipantI feel ya Shplarz, I know what ya mean about fading and all. You have to create a whole new channel and pattern to get the same instrument to fade or to create some kind of different sound. Damn I hate it when it comes down to the moment where I do have to change the sound to the same instrument. I wish they would make some kind of panel where you could do it, like a temporary change, that’d be cool. Oh and does anyone actually use the live recording tool? lol, I couldn’t get that down for nothing…. my mouse would mess up or I would hit a key at a wrong moment and my sample would come out lame. And as for sequencing goes, I think it’s okay except for what I just said about the fading but has anyone used the new acoustica beatcraft? It has a wonderful sequencing system, just check it out. And if any of y’all think you have the best mixer out your wrong cause acoustica mixcraft is BY FAR the greatest mixer I’ve ever used! I know y’all got some music out there that you’ve all made from fuityloops or other programs. Why don’t we all load up some of our songs on here so we can all listen to each others creativity? Just an idea. Peace.

junoParticipantyeah that sequencing thing is a pain. You can set types of automation in the piano roll but not on the playlist. I’ve been reading up lately trying to find some way around this in FL. Dont know of a free sequencer other than trial versions of course.
You can always try some shareware/freeware site to see if they have any free ones. http://www.sharewaremusicmachine.com
first, of course make sure theres no delay or reverb effects on the channel. Second, shorten the release of the sample or vst/synth so it doesn’t carry so long (do that where you edit the clip when you click on the channel on the tab with the envelope line. You can ever gate some things to get them to stop after a certain period.
**edit: just saw this in the sponsor links below the banner. I have no idea if it for real but it advertised Get Acid 4.0 free

junoParticipantI’m looking at FL right now and all of the major FL generators have an option to change the envelope. Load the generator, bring up the Channel Settings by clicking on the channel, click on the PLUGIN tab. You should see some changable envelope lines. Shorten up the envelope and/or put the release all the way down by turning its knob to the left all the way. The envelope should square off at the end and will give it more of a quick hit type sound rather than a drawn out thump.
I dont know if this is what you’re talking about but it sounds like it from your post above.
As far as gating goes, it would divide your note into sections. I dont know if you’re familiar with FX equipment but think of it like a chop FX. You can set the length of each chop by editing the attack, release, and hold. So basically you could set the length of a note using that if you wanted to.

WiperParticipant
how can i shorten the release of the synth.
i know how to do that in the fl channel, but there’s no actual sample for the synth, that’s why it’s a generator … how would i gate the release?[/quote:1oju98x1]See if there’s an envelope anywhere on the synth screen. If there’s no release slider or knob there, that’s no good. Or find out how presets are made for the synth given, and crack the problem. “One can never know too much”
.
Another way is to play with the “Time” knobs in the channel properties.
There are 2 knobs – gate & offset ,and the full portamento button. Experiment with these and you’ll get it. This principe doesn’t always work. Sitrys is evading it quite well, but there are plugs that are quite well controlable by this. The third and the final way i know of, and the most effective, is automation. Sorry dude, but this is the longest possible way, requires a lot of work but gives great results.
If you got FL v5, it shouldn’t be too hard, the amaizing automation clips can work simple melodies out quite eassily. Just a lot of drawing, that’s all.
For more wicked melos, make a volume envelope with an automation clip, gate it as much as you wanna this way, then you need to sample out a note, and then load into a sampler or use it with the granulazer plug…
This does well, but takes the liberty of using the velocity feature in the piano roll in it’s full glory. If the synth has the ability to make multiple parametre connections to a velocity control, you can say good bye to it.
Then again, you can sample out a note with different release times (using automation ofcourse), and use them all… IE. make a preset in the FPC plugin [which has a nice velocity to sample feature (if i’m expressing right)] , and load different samples you made for different velocities. Lack of this solution is that you must sample out each note you wanna use 4 times…
Looks bad, yeah? I haven’t figured the right solution yet, and can’t see one coming…
If anone figured this one out, could you share it?hope this helps. greetz
wp.s. will i ever write a simple, short, to the point post…

JoeyMach81ParticipantModernBeats.com has a good sample package that is free once you join the mailing list. I got it 2 days ago and they have samples that Dre, Timbaland and the Neptunes use. I’ve been having fun with it!!!

junoParticipant
appareciate the replies both.
juno, when i’m using slayer, and opened the channel settings like u suggested, there are no envelope lines… the plugin window itself open. do u know which setting to adjust to reduce the release?
[/quote:1yxhmhb8]OK I got you now – Slayer is a little different.
When you load it into a channel the Plugin box pops up with a guitar in the window, right? Under the strings there should be a bunch of knobs – over to the right you should see a few “Vel” knobs and a “Damp” knob. You can play around with the two Velocity knobs but the main thing that will cut out all that feedback is turning that Damp knob almost all the way up (to the right). This will probably change the sound of the instrument a little so you’re gonna have to tweak some other stuff to get the right sound. That should do it for yaAdSense 336x280February 25, 2005 at 1:10 am #569050
WiperParticipant
wiper, your explanation seems gorgeous, but its full of technical jargon. i’ll try the time thing, so thx, but after that u lost me, idk what ur suggesting, nor do i know how to automate unfortunately…
[/quote:1wngoqgt]Sorry dude. I just read what i posted yesterday and wanted to thank you fir giving me an idea: I HAVE GOT TO GET OUT OF MY ROOM
And yeah, learn automating. You’ll understand everything by yourself then…
