With a wave editor, select a portion of music, preferably rhythmic, and trim it like you are going to loop it. Take the time of that portion, and divide it by 2 until it is less than 1 sec. Then divide that by 60 and you will have the BPM.

I usually just drop the orig. track inside Acid and use the Beatmapper, but what ever works.
I use Ableton Live
I run it through my djm 600.
