KG87ParticipantI understand the whole process (phase inversion) and lining up the instrumentals exactly with the original,
but do software limitations apply??
tracks I’ve tried and failed at
Fredde le grand – put your hands up from detroit
Original source version, digital download, using the mix intro (beats) to extract the bassline (as this is what i wanted)
Lucky Twice – Lucky
I have the kareoki version (seems the same as original but with an additional clap and without the vocals
it doesnt make sense, As both were from Cd sources.
somebody help!
I’ve heard People use soundforge, but how do you position the second channel to fit with the other??
Im not a n00b at either programs either. I’ve even gone as far go to the dots on SF but got nowhere. The thing is a couple of years ago i did ‘motorcycle – as the rush comes (completely)’ with no problems?!
i’ve just read ppl use

aj-smsParticipantAll down to what has been used to shape the mix. 1 track has the vocal and the other doesn’t have the vocal. If a compressor has been placed over the output bus and it takes the threshold trigger from the vocal it will affect all the mix, lowering the other content outside of the amplitude region. If the vocal is then removed from the mix the compressor threshold will trigger on the next loudest sound and increase and reduce the level of others in the track.
The likely reason why the motorcycle track worked is because they could have mastered the track from 4 mono or 2 stereo group busses and only applied dither at the output. They would then drop the vocal from the mix and the rest of the content would not be effected. Therefore you get a instrumental, and a vocal with the same instrumental.

KG87ParticipantAj, the motorcycle track worked because i used parts from it (the mix intro, outro and all the other bits that didnt have vocals on it)
It does however, make sense that slight changes in compression/dynamics will affect the instrumental, but that required thought
