vice versesParticipantive always looked at dre as being one of the greatest producers out there, i mean you cant fault his production on classics such as the marshal mathers album, doggystyle, chronic / 2001 etc etc. but it has become apparant to me that in the last few years that dre seems to have really slipped, all his beats sound generic and have become a bit samey.
timbaland on the other hand has suddenly become the name everyones talking about, and to be fair he has created some of the most banging beats and boundary pushing music weve heared in hip hop or music in general for that matter, i only have to hear that missy track – get ur freak on and i get goosebumps!!
well i guess the question i pose to all you guys out there is who really is the best in 2007! were still waiting on detox to come and blow us away, but then we have been for years now, dre’s production on bustas album was weak, he wasnt to be seen on the games latest release, and i cant think of anything else notable in years that dre has wowed me with. on the other hand timbaland… has broken justin timberlake into being "cool" nelly furtado, missy etc to name a couple, seems he has a golden touch at moment…
so what do u guys out there think, timbaland the greatest producer?
discuss!

yazza187Participanttheirs no way u can single some one out and say you are the best they do different styles of beats. Dre has the drums which u can just say thats Dre and Timbo has the strange synthy Abstract beats but all so great beats.
I’d say they are 2 of the best producers in the game but their are 100’s of great producers doing great beats with less effective programs but these guys have been doing top notch beats for years Dre over 20 years Timbo 10+
u can’t choose like saying who’s better Biggie or Tupac booth great rappers at what they do u can’t choose who’s better
nice topic though VV

vice versesParticipantwell yea i know what your saying yazza… but this is hip hop there has to be a king of the beats, same as theres always a fight for being the king of new york… nas vs jay. or king of the south…t.i vs luda vs everyone etc
so i know what your saying, but is dre really as good as timbaland in 2007?

acheadKeymasterGood angle to this topic indeed V.V
i think one has to look at what the role of the producer is and what they have accomplished and by this i would have to say that for the moment Dre stands well over Timbo. With all respect to the Artsists, i think it is fair comment to say that artists like Eminem, 50, Game ect were not Initially as marketable and maybe as talented as the likes of Aaliyah,
Justin, Nelly Furtado and Missy.if you think, where would the likes of Em,Game 50 be without Dre – ‘underground??’ where as Justin Nelly F and Missy surely would be out there.
Dre has changed a music genre on a good 3 occassion throughout his 20yrs – NWA to Doggystlye to Chronic 2001 and Marshall Mathers. granted Timbo is doing the same with R&B/Pop at the moment.
But Dre turned possible ‘nobodys’ into superstars, Timbo turned Stars into Grammys and Sales.
2007 without a doubt is Timberlands year though.
my 2 cents on it

DJ_PrimeParticipantTimbaland has turned into a ringtone producer, cos if u know the state of the game, u know all the money is in ringtones at the moment
sad but true

C-SquaredParticipantDre’s shit won’t sound SUPER dated like Timbo’s will in 10 years… history will show Dre as more of a all-timer and Timbo as more of a pop producer IMO

ryakeParticipantif taking samples and not chopping them at all is revolutionary than timbaland should get the crown
AdSense 336x280May 18, 2008 at 4:11 am #649723
thehovsepParticipanttimbaland is a pop god, but a lazy dude.
between danja patching his synths to using the same beatbox samples in a bunch of high-profile tracks, dudes should make this guy run for his yayper proper.dre hasn’t produced a hot beat in a fucking long minute though.
timbaland is probably still top, but even the Neptunes have managed to switch up their game more..
i think this is more a Timbo vs Neptunes discussion than Dre vs Timbo.

mr crisParticipantthink I’ll sit on the fence with this one…just hope i don’t get no splinters.

njslipmatParticipantI personally like Dre better, but when I listen to all Tim’s done over the years, the Magoo stuff, old Missy like "I Can’t Stand The Rain", the r&b stuff on 100% Ginuwine, all the way through the newer Justin, Nelly, and Republic stuff, it’s gets hard to justify why I feel that way.
