CheapParticipant.mp3 is just fine for me. I can’t afford a sound system that would require the quality of vinyl, haha

starkie123Participantthis is 2009! The future! Mp3’s all the way! Out with Vinyl and those terrible things called CD’s
.
Anything round, thin and made out of plastic only has one good use, and that’s as a frisbee out of your car window!

marc1874ParticipantAlthough i prefer DJn with vinyl, i chose CD as i mainly used CDJs for convenience. Aint bought a vinyl in a while either.

salvatorejParticipantVinyl has always been choice, especially in the club. As a sound installer, I and others have determined this to be true for two reasons.
First,
Vinyl adds an audible resonant bass response to the sound. The resonance(vibration) of bass frequencies is caused when the sub bass woofers move air.
Floors, windows, walls etc. that are within or near the same resonant frequency (Hz.) will vibrate by transferring air waves into physical surface vibration’s.
These minuscule vibrations are then picked up by the cartridge through the vinyl and re-amplified(feedback) increasing the woofers movement/resonance increasing boom. Ex: add verb to a kick in your track.Second–
long term audible conditioning?CD’s/ WAV. are accurate in frequency response, better than 20Hz to 20Khz.
Vinyl’s frequency response is way below by today’s standards measuring 35Hz to 10Khz that varies depending on how many times it has been played.
Since vinyl cannot reproduce full audio bandwidth there is a decrease in sensitivity, especially in the high-mid region.
Due to the lack of hi-mid presence with vinyl, it would sound warmer.Think of it this way—
When you go for a hearing test, does the doctor SKIP over frequencies. no—
20Hz to 20KHz.On the other hand, Cd’s, which are accurate, true and how we should be listening are labeled as bright and/or harsh.
Or is it Conditioning.
TIP:—learn how to use your EQ,
anything can be made to sound like anything using a decent EQ.MP3’s have actually moved the world BEHIND in audio fidelity!.
MP3’s sound like crap or am I missing something?, Please, tell me the fix!!!!
Take a challenge, Properly burn a .wav disc at 128kbts for comparison with the same MP3.
don’t go through Nero,Roxio or other, 1to1 only see for yourself!!My best to all

Buddy SpikeParticipantWell, I vote here for the wav – or aiff – format stocked on hard drives.
The main and bigger argument in favor of vinyl – in the endless war "vinyl vs CD" – is that you get an hotter and more dynamic sound with vinyls than CD’s. This is true, but not always. The apparent loss of dynamic in CD’s is caused by today’s abusive digital mastering techniques (brick-wall limiters, hard digital compression…) – an absurd process called the "Loudness War", well described here : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Loudness_war.
The colder sound of CD’s is due to poor quality DJ / Home-Studio rigs (pure crap AD/DA converters at first place).
So, if the sound material is recorded through an hi-grade AD converter, if the dynamic range is well used in a soft mastering process and, finally, if your DA converter is a REAL pro one (Apogee, Prism, Weiss…) and not some of those 10$ Radio Shack-types integrated in Soundblaster cards, DJ’s CD players and even in Native Instruments Audio 4/8, then you will never go back to vinyl.EDIT : Nice little video about "Loundness War" :

ginjagaidenParticipantGotta say guys…its mp3 all the way. used vinyl from about the ages of 12-18 but have been using mp3’s for about 3 1/2 years now. until then I was a vinyl purist, Now I use mp3 because there easier to transport , there cheaper and I find cd decks alot more versatile than your’e standard vinyl turntable. But for all the mp3’s I have, they’ll never touch the rareness of a minimaly(if thats a word) pressed vinyl.peace

salvatorejParticipantHi All,
FYI:
I recently heard on the news that vinyl is making a comeback!
My feelings are that it is a fat chance in hell
simply due to the fact that most of the population does not care what sounds better, not going to sh lump around a 12"x12" record, these days, don’t have extra money to buy or re-buy a turntable to than deal with the whole transferring process to their
I-pods, etc.
Sadly, the majority wins, though I prefer professionally mastered store purchased CD’s.AdSense 336x280July 25, 2009 at 4:48 pm #670169

AdSense 336x280November 16, 2009 at 7:18 pm #674108
iridiumParticipantVinyl. I have CDJs and they’re great, and I’ve got my fair share of MP3s too, but when it comes to DJing theres something about seeing the music etched into the vinyl and using your hand to physically control what it does that I love.
AdSense 336x280December 21, 2009 at 7:42 pm #675407
el3ctronicaParticipantI prefer the best possible quality for anything that I receive. But if we are talking about distribution over the net then MP3 file download is more convenient.
