twoflutesParticipantI’ll soon be making the jump to Mac for making music – it seems the only way I can discipline myself not to put a load of non-audio software on my music machine…
Anyhow, I’ve got a M-audio 1814, and although I’m generally pleased with the results, I’m really dissappointed with support and driver updates… what I want to know is:
1. If I get a MacBook, can I expect the 1814 to do what it’s supposed to do, without any weird pops and clicks, or driver issues?
2. Should I consider another interface, USB or Firewire, from another manufacturer?cheers,

potdot2000ParticipantI’ve been using the M-audio FW410 (uses same driver as FW1814) on both intel/powerpc macs with no major problems, but then I only use it for outputs
As for updates 1.8.1v3 was released last weekAdSense 336x280December 22, 2006 at 2:59 pm #607488
JuggernautParticipantGenerally speaking with mac’s you’ll have less driver problems and if you do get problems they’re a hell of a lot easier to fix.
I haven’t used M-Audio interfaces but they’re better than Edirol (which i used to use) so you shouldn’t have any problems.
I’d personally stick to Firewire…USB could provide some latency problems if there’s a lot going through it.AdSense 336x280December 26, 2006 at 4:12 pm #607989
stenioreisParticipanti think firewire it’s better than usb 2.0

Roy TruthParticipantI use a M-audio Firewire 410. I have it for almost two years now and I have no problems. Plus I love to use pro-tools and the M-powered version for M-audio makes it easy for me to do my mixes on the go.

nimbledoeParticipanti have heard great things about the RME Fireface.
i have a MOTU 828 MK2 , it’s is a great sounding slightly cheaper alternative to the RME.
i had a Firewire 410 when i used to run PC.
i have a Macbook 1.83GHz and a Titanium PowerBook G4 1 GHz.
i think they are all good alternatives although i must say that my 828 Mk2 doesn’t like going from the MacBook to the TiBook very much.
Maybe the backwards compatibilty of the UB Drivers needs a bit more work ?
But this is a rare situation and i wouldn’t let it steer you away from the MOTU if you are seriously considering it.

gspiel1232Participantyeah, i agree that the 410 is a great home studio solution, bu if you’re looking for recording anything that requires really more than one person i think you should invest in some firepods

alkalineParticipantthe RME is the best for most uses. After that, MOTU and others.

echofusionParticipantHi
I am a big fan of M-Audio, I have used almost every firewire M-Audio interface on the market, last one being the 1814 which wasnt that bad untill I heard the Tc Electronic’s Konnekt 24D!
This the crossing point for me. The AD/DA conversion is so clear and transparent where only high-end sound cards such as those of Protools HD ACCEL series can achieve. Its SOOOOOOOOOOO clear specially deep end with no distortion at all!! throw in built in DSP just for the sake of it, this card is in a league of its own! Check it out guys!
Peace!

larrykooleParticipantM-Audio Firewire 410 is best but they just released a new version

el3ctronicaParticipantI use M-Audio’s Profire 610. It’s firewire and I haven’t had any issues with it! Very good quality in sound.

pjburnhillParticipantIf you really want bulletproof performance and rock solid reliability, RME. If it’s out of your budget, any of the above will do! There’s a small chance you will do some out-of-this-world heavy audio lifting that any current on-the-market USB/FireWire interfaces would struggle. The only question is how picky you are about latency and what actual ports do you want… Oh and mic preamp noise.

beatz51ParticipantI use Apogee Duet. Super clean Firewire interface with plenty of Head room!
