JuggernautParticipantDeviating from rap related threads for a minute…
I’ve got a gig early July and i’ll be DJing for about 5hours straight or so..
What i’ve decided to do is have the last 3 hours go from old skool classics to some rave through jungle finishing on some more recent hard step drum n bass.
Now the recent stuff i can handle as i’ve been on the pulse (as it were) however i wasn’t in this country through the rave/old skool era so as much as i’m trying to find out what was big back then and would transfer well now, it’s proving slow.
So wondered if anyone on here could help me with (old skool/rave/EARLY jungle) tracks they remember hearing as a clubber/playing as a DJ or just really fond of as a listener.
Dunno if this is the right place for it but aww heck.

The CutterParticipantThere is a lot of great old school house and acid house etc from the late 80’s early 90’s but I can’t remeber them all.
I’m not sure what genres I would place these in but try Meat Beat Manifesto, Renegade Soundwave. T-99, Westbam, 808 State, The Orb, The Shamen, Quadrophonia, LFO( not the boy band those dudes stole their name from the original LFO). Front 242, Nitzer Ebb, Depeche Mode.
I know these do not all fit into the rave/jungle scene but these are all great old school style music that you can dance to.
Give me more time to remeber the 80’s and I will try to find some more house oriented grooves from back in the day.
Have a nice day,
Mr. C.

JuggernautParticipantno no…no house.
i need it to be more rave leaning towards jungle..
you see before those last 3 hours, i have 3 hours of other music and i don’t want to go to older disco/house type stuff in the last 3..besides by that time the tempo will be substantially higher so yeah mid/late 80’s and early 90’s was the prime for rave? (please correct me if i’m wrong i wasn’t there for it so don’t know) and that’s where abouts i’m lookingAdSense 336x280June 13, 2006 at 11:03 pm #591496

See what you think. The original post is in the House forum under Outerhear (4 mash ups I did a while ago

JuggernautParticipantAlways had tabs on what’s going on with fantazia…
I know what you mean though. i’ve spoken to the person i’m playing for and she hired me based on the friday nights i do at my student union nightclub so i can pretty much play what i want, but iv’e been meaning to do an old skool set for the longest and figured now would be the best time as i’ll have no restrictions from the managers trying to push more commercial stuff out.
Like you say i haven’t got much time, but atleast if i have a rough idea of a good selection of songs i can listen to and familiarise myself with for the few weeks left so there aren’t any nasty suprises when i play out.AdSense 336x280June 16, 2006 at 2:46 pm #591638
DJ Nicky TParticipantThe Toni Braxton jungle mix from ’96 was by:
Dem 2 Ruff – "Thinking about you" on a white label…was repressed though a couple of years ago on 12".AdSense 336x280June 16, 2006 at 6:23 pm #591649
JuggernautParticipantMainly e-bay…it’s mad but most of the stuff is up there…thing is some are going for mad amounts of money (jonny L – hurt you so, for example end bid, 28 quid…i’m keen, but not that keen). and yeah finding CD’s that have the original 12" mixes on them and stuff, unmixed…again, hard as hell to find but there are a few out there. and your usual mp3 online stores….i’m a be broke after this but how often do you play in the middle of no where 2meters higher than everyone else on some concrete stone slab type thing with smoke machines, lasers and strobe lights…(i usually play in a dark dj booth where no one knows who i am so it’s a change)
i’ll see if i can get my hands on that toni braxton whitelabel though…sounds mad and will deffo get those who aren’t into jungle singing when they’re drunk..

NickyT are you sure it’s thinking about you? coz all i’m finding is "Nice Tune" by dem 2 ruff which happens to have i can’t stop thinking from you in the lyrics but was lifted from toni braxtons "Breath again"

AdSense 336x280June 17, 2006 at 10:00 am #591697
DJ Nicky TParticipantIt’s the same tune….There were two different names for it.
AdSense 336x280June 17, 2006 at 12:41 pm #591703
The CutterParticipantDamn you Juggernaut it’s all your fault. J/J Now you have me going threw my old mixtapes from a radio show from the late 80’s early 90’s called "The Halfway House" it used to air on WFIT 89.5. Now I ‘m gonna be in Tune Id for years asking who this artists is, when was that track realeased etc and so forth.
Does anyone remeber the song that goes" James Brown is Dead" it’s a classic house track. Man it has already started, I’m gonna be in this section for ever.
Have a nice day,
Mr. C.

AdSense 336x280June 19, 2006 at 10:10 am #591835
JuggernautParticipantNah, get called juggs/juggz all the time so it’s cool.
still can’t find that track…guess it’s for the better though, it’s probably going for a stupid amount of money.i found a whole load of 7"s in my room that i must have put a side when i was sorting out my uni’s radio catalogue.
Dunno HOW it got there but i’ve got Rotterdamn Termination Source – Poing… so stupid but it’s gonna get played.haven’t watched 24 hour party people…will be getting that after this gig’s over and done with

AdSense 336x280June 19, 2006 at 9:44 pm #591876
JuggernautParticipantTell me about it…i do 3 hour sets on fridays and there’s ALWAYS like 10 records i wish i brought with me but either forgot/didn’t think anyone had that decent music knowledge.
I still don’t know why i’m doing a 5 hour set, i forsee a lethal proplus and redbull concoction at some point in the night and not being able to sleep for 3 days after (did it for a coursework deadline once, NOT pretty).
cheers for the tip with the 7" (hehe) i did cut up the original rubber mats that came with the 1210’s i got at home and slap that ontop of my slipmat…kinda works but i’ll deffo try that, i’m sure i’ve got a 12" somewhere spare.
the set’s coming along well, kinda forgotten about the electro house/trance/breaks i’m doing at the begining and the harder/recent dnb i’m doing at the end (d’oh!) will need to see if i can actually do 5 hours on the trot too! just under 3 weeks to go

I’ve tried to find mixes I remember lol…. its kinda hard with all the re-releases and other crap that was released at the time, especially white labels and ‘rave’ mixes.
Hope this helps… or just for other’s interest.
