AnonymousInactiveI would like to offer my help with ableton live 5 to any one how need it. It’s not that I’m some expert or something like that, but I have time I can research and might learn a thing or two in the process.

gmundayParticipantHi guys I’ve already posted this elsewhere, but how big is the internet?, if you haven’t already seen it, I’ll post it here aswell.
This little tutorial goes really to live newbies, although I suppose anyone might get use out of it. The aim of the tutorial is really about the performance of using live, and a simple way to keep cpu down. Sorry to those if this has been posted before.
"bouncing". Yes, you can do it using automation or manual for that matter. What I like to do is following, for example:
1) create an audio track and name it to "bass"
2) create another audio track and name it to "bassmstr" where mstr = master
3) obviously record some kind of bass riff
4) add a shed load of effects to bass, tweak them live or do whatever
5) make sure the automation (or basic sample records .. for god sake)
6) route the output of bass to bassmstr
7) record to track bassmstr for aslong as it takes
delete effects on the original bass channel
9) delete the original bass channelso now you should have a bounced audio sample with your shed loads of effects / automation from the original track playing as a basic audio sample without tons of hungry cpu eating effects using 1-2% of cpu.
You can do the same using midi vsts. You can record you playing the vst on a midi channel to an audio track in realtime using the trick of routing. Just setup your routing so the midi channel with that vst outputs to an audio track, set the monitor to in, receive input from midi to that channel and there you have it. No need to open up anymore vsts. I love routing.
Using routing enables alot of possibilities. You can build and construct different variations of loops so that your computer only ever has to play audio samples. You can chain any track to another, or create multiple samples. This is great if you have done the automation work previously, since data records in realtime remember. Routing to audio samples is not so good for live performance since this defeats the object of reducing cpu load, but oh well I dare say there is an answer for everything using live. You can still use effects in realtime after, just no need for as many.
Another basic tip, I find recording / mixing at the lowest possible channel level gives much more headroom for eq / compression / effects etc. I always set the channel’s volumes to half way, and just turn up my external sound source. Always make sure the master is set to max!!! When I’m ready to master I can do so cleanly. Eq out unwanted frequencies and add the effect – louder compressor. The eq will now sound very "middy", but change this, just make sure you don’t clip. Reduce the threshold and you should get some decent sounding side chain. Never put anything serious on the master channel until you are happy with your mix. Eq to taste.
Another trick. Construct a basic barebones track. Create drums + bass + some lead / pad variation. Now import vocal riffs (this is where vocaloid can actually sounds good) into live which (if you had sense would be in the same key / in tune – if not dont worry, we can fix this later). Now select the vocal loop. Reverse it – add high reverb and make it sound very long, filter out unwanted frequencies and add some of your favourite effects to the vocals. Blimey!!!! reverse creates really good ambient sounding vocals which, not only don’t make sense, but sound amazing!. Use the octave / semitone functions to change the pitch / tune of the vocal.
Just explore.
Slow the vocals down without affecting the whole thing and see what You get.

gmundayParticipantI’ve done it again :S
*external sound source = monitors or what ever. Just don’t clip.

I’m that that site with all the Ableton Live videos will help out a lot of producers here who are already using it or those perhaps interested to see what Live is all about.
