perabdulParticipanti feel like i’ve read a billion "top 5" or "top 10" lists that all said the same thing. thought maybe you guys could help me switch it up a bit. what are 5 albums that aren’t necessarily the best or most talked about albums, but ones that you personally enjoyed because of the production?
in no order, here are mine
wyclef jean – the carnival[/size:1i09ms2s]
———-
while i enjoyed most aspects about this album, the production is what really does it for me. all the way through, it is top notch. it all flows so well, it doesn’t feel like an emcee spitting over a beat, but real songs, something i feel is missing from hiphop as of late. guantanamera, apocalypse, bubblegoose, anything can happen, gone till november, stayin alive, all excellent. pretty much any song on this album (not the skits) would be standout tracks on any other album.atmosphere – god loves ugly[/size:1i09ms2s]
———-
in my opinion, this was atmosphere at their best. slug’s lyrical content meshed perfectly with the vibe that ant created. from dark (shrapnel, song about a friend, onemosphere, fuck you lucy, pretty much the entire album…) to not so dark (modern mans hustle, breathing), the shit was always interesting and kept your head nodding. while there were some "ehh" tracks, they certainly weren’t filler (cough cough sevens travels), and the rest of the album was fantastic. it had somewhat of a raw sound, but polished at the same time. kind of hard to explain i guess. love it though.kanye west – college dropout[/size:1i09ms2s]
———-
this is a strange one for me. one, he is not a great emcee, and he was even less of one on this album. two, he is dead to me because everything he has done after this has failed to impress me in the slightest. that being said, if you don’t love the production on this cd, you’re an idiot. the skits are garbage, and workout plan is garbage as well, but the beats…oh the beats… so many quality beats on this record, it’s tough to skip almost any of the songs. drums sounded downright spectacular. WHY DOESN’T HIS MUSIC SOUND LIKE THIS ANYMORE.talib kweli – reflection eternal[/size:1i09ms2s]
———-
hi-tek was fantastic on this shit. no cheesy guitar stuff, no overproduced nonsense. beats were bangin! such a chill style, i really enjoyed this entire album. this is my favorite kweli album, and this is all due to hi-tek. kweli (in my opinion) sounds a bit stale on alot of beautiful struggle and quality, probably no coincidence that hi-tek didn’t get many credits on those two….mf doom – mm food[/size:1i09ms2s]
———-
i love me some doom beats, and i really really love doom rhyming over his own stuff, so you shouldn’t have any trouble understanding why i love this album. though not your typical hiphop production, mm food is much more fun than listening to typical hip hop production. some real classic stuff on this album, it kind of bothers me how slept on this album is. i really feel like some of dooms best work is on here. bonus points for this as well because i was real lifted one night in my apartment listening to some wax and stumbled across the piano loop in "kon karne" on an old sade record.AdSense 336x280July 3, 2007 at 9:36 am #627884

NATTYParticipantmy top 5 would be;
mobb deep – murda muzik (when they first meet the alchemist)
wu-tang – forever (triumph FULL STOP)
cee-lo green is a soul machine (a musical genius was born)
diplomats – diplomatic immunity (THE FIRST DIPSET ALBUM, LETS GET THAT CLEAR)
freeway – philadelphia freeway (back when just blaze only had an mpc2000 and kanye had the baddest drum patterns, see beanie sigel – the truth for more details.
top 5 albums for production???
thats a hard question but this what my brain can recall.

yazza187Participanti agree that they are all gd albums especialy MM Food but i wouldn’t say they have the best production they have great lyrics the best production is College Dropout out of them Doom purposly makes the beats have an underground/ distorted style to them so they don’t sound clean i’d say the album with the best production, is Get Rich Or Die Tryin the rap is awful but the production is flawless i know alot of producers that mix down listening to that album

but i do agree the blueprint is the album w/ the best overall production. then,
AZ- Aziatic

Scarface- the fix
…. And the upset…u said production…. Trick daddy- http://www.thug.comAdSense 336x280December 3, 2007 at 7:58 pm #638353
See O WinsParticipantMy top 5 in no order
Souls Of Mischief-93 Til Infinity
Hieroglyphics-Full Circle
MED-Push Comes To Shove
Reflection Eternal-Train Of Thought
Madvillian-Madvilliany
All 5 albums are very on point production wise. The lyrics were dope on all the cd’s too but the beats were the main draws to me.

SolarliteParticipantI’ve never heard the Wyclef Jean album, but the other 4 are spot on. I prefer Seven’s travels to God Loves Ugly and I prefer Late Registration to College dropout though.
The Talib Kweli one is really good, but you should have titled it "Reflection Eternal – Train of Thought".
