rinski2000ParticipantHi,
I was just wondering if it was worth buying a midi keyboard. I only use Fruity loops at the moment, I thought it would be easier to make a tune on the keyboard rather than moving little blocks around and then listening to the tune. I tried using the computers key board as a midiboard but it has a delay, does anyone else have this problem.
Thanx.

VibrantJParticipantGives me more of a playable feel with velocities and stuff like that the more human feel for sure (if you can play keys that is)

dj_canedParticipantI cant work without a keyboard, helps me work out chord structures and grace notes I wouldnt be able to do with mouse. Its also a lot quicker to lay down drums with a keyboard.

In SilicoParticipantUm, yes, yes, yes, and yes. My keyboard is god. I would be angrier if someone smashed my awesome MIDI-board than my car. It totally frees up my creativity – not to mention the awesome white plastic keys are perfect for drawing scales on with Dry-Erase markers for my didn’t-pay-attention-during-piano-lessons ass. ‘As long as you only hit the blue keys, it’ll sound ok.’

acapellaKeymasterwhat kind of a crazy question’s that.. – only joking..
I might be selling my ozonic soon as the replacement power adaptor turns up from M-audio. Will throw in a pcmcia firewire card and 6pin-6pin f/w cable and a few dirty magz…
ne1 wanna make a sensible offer via PM – feel more than welcome.

tonesParticipantJust incase ur not convinced ill have to say its a must as well! Also in the future if u buy any hardware synths u can get rack mounted ones instead of the versions with keys which are more expensive. Id rather have one keyboard n a rack full of gear (as well as a PC full of softsynths). Also on a musical level playing keys is more fun, i used to use fruity loopsn a mouse, can get a bit tedious.

acheadKeymastermy synth only cost 80 quid!!

In SilicoParticipantHoly hell – Yes Acapella, I would offer a starting amount of $200 (USD) unless you had a different amount in mind. Let me know.

func1200Participanta midi keyboard is the only way to go. but once you get into real time playing you have to think about latency wich means you need a good soundcard.

In SilicoParticipantYeah, I’m a little spent after getting the 303, Oxy8 and Radium 49 – as well as a nice Mackie FOH mixer. Also, I just got a studio in downtown Madison, WI – on the main drag – for $125/mo – Guess I should thank my friend’s dad who owns the building…heh. This studio is gonna rock ass.

The Last WordParticipantBut then again it all depends on what you’re trying to do. If you’re not trying to create anything super complex, moving the little blocks might be good enough. But if you’re tired of moving the blocks around definately get a midi keyboard. Take into consideration (like a someone else said) that going the keyboard route you’ll have to update your sound card so you won’t have to deal with latency issues.
Funny thing about buying new gear – You always end up having to buy something else so that your new gear works the way you intended.

It really is easy to pick up.
most people who make music but dont know how to play instruments, know what sounds good just by ear, and its the same with a keyboard. you’ll soon learn which shapes and notes sound good together, and its not as if having a keyboard stops from drawing the notes if you get stuck. definitley worth while.i just use my microKorg with a MIDI/USB interface connection and its grand. i didnt find any latency problems and i only have a little C-Media piece o’ crap. and even if you’re really broke, just eBay for a cheap keyboard.

I use a great Midi Controller called M-Audio Radium 49…Agreat USB Midi Controller!
