djshadesukParticipantRight y’all, this is a BIG one!
I’ve been given the opportunity to collaborate with someone who was, back when I was 14 (nearly 19 years ago!), something of a personal hero. Back in 1992 a guy called Echo made the music for an Amiga demo called Jesus on E’s which achieved legendary status largely thanks to its 26 minute hardcore mix and could usually be found in most Amiga users demo collection. I’ve been thinking of making a high quality remake of this awesome mix for years (the original used 8-bit, 22Khz samples, the maximum the Amiga could handle at the time), so after a bit of detective work I contacted the original writer (now going by the name Spoonwizard). He told me that he too had been thinking of doing a remake for years but had never gotten around to it. However now, after hearing a recent (and quite bad) unofficial remake and as I’d been in touch with him about it, he’s decided that its time to remake JoE and asked me to collaborate on it with him!
So guys, this (for me at least!) is a biggy! I get the chance to collaborate with a boyhood hero but there is a LOT of work to be done and a LOT of samples need to be identified so high quality versions can be resampled. Some sample sources are known (because Spoonwizard sampled them) but many aren’t as it WAS a long time and many were "ripped" from other Amiga demos…
So, if you have an idea where ANY of the samples (synth/stabs, breakbeats, speech) are from your help would be very, very appreciated. If needs be, and anyone requests it, I can solo out ALL of the samples used (I’ve still got all the original low-quality samples that were used!) to make them easier to identify.
The entire 26 minute epic (including the real-time generated graphics!) is below.
[size size=75:3ruvfryj]Please note, the odd stereo split in the video is a result of the Amiga’s audio system which could be used as 4 mono channels (output as 2 left and 2 right) or 2 stereo channels.[/size:3ruvfryj]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y7PX3JAF_5Q

One of the breaks is from DJ’s Unite Volume 1 – Side A.

Hot pants break – Not sure where this particular sample is from, but it’s available almost everywhere.

djshadesukParticipantWow, Drunkenbaker, that’s some way to make your first post, you’re like some sample IDing God!
I’ve probably got all the tunes you’ve mentioned, and know I’ve heard them before, but my memory for names is worse than completely and utterly useless!
Really hope you can identify more, especially the breaks/beats, that would be a great help. But, even if you can’t, I can’t thank you enough for what you have done already. *we need a thumbs up smilie*
EDIT:
[list:d1vm2xsz][*:d1vm2xsz]Found a source of the "Won’t you rock with me one time" sample; After Dark – Cardiac[/*:m:d1vm2xsz]
[*:d1vm2xsz]The synth that starts at 5:49 does feature on "NJoi – Live in Manchester" however it is actually from another NJoi track; "Mindflux"[/*:m:d1vm2xsz][/list:u:d1vm2xsz]AdSense 336x280November 9, 2010 at 8:13 pm #683439
drunkenbakerParticipantHaha, thanks. I knew all this useless trivia would come in handy some day!
Anyway, here’s a couple more for you:
mod.joes_02 – The reversed kick drum/hi hat is from the opening of Pump Up the Jam by Technotronic.
mod.joes_02 – There’s a stab in here from Industrial – Tribal Trance
mod.joes_09 – A stab from 808 State – Cubik
Hittin’ hard and keep you hyper – Mr Lee – Pump That Body (this is the original source. I can’t find record of an acapella but there must be one, I’ve heard samples from this in other tracks)
Here we go – F/O/A/D – Work It Out (the ‘Let’s Go’ sample’s in here clean as well)I’m sure there’s a few more I recognise. I’ll keep my ears out.

Yeah, Live In Manchester is a mix of a bunch of N-Joi’s tracks, however due to the presence of a bunch of other samples from that mix I thought it best to just list the most likely source. You can hear the crowd noise behind the piano stabs!Nice one on finding the source for the other sample though. It’s on the Megabass Remix CD too (seriously, this and Datafile One must be the only sample CDs they had back in the day!). Turns out I listened to Cardiac last night and completely missed the sample too!

Thanks in advance!

spoonwzdParticipantNice work DB – I’ll know where to come first next time instead of spending hours hunting through my sample store!
Where did you find it anyway? A sample CD? If so, which one and how did you identify it so quickly? I think I need some tips on organising my collection – it’s 259 GB of mess!
AdSense 336x280December 9, 2010 at 6:50 pm #684107
drunkenbakerParticipantYeah, it came off the Best Service "Dance Instruments" sample CD. There’s only a handful of decent samples on that disc and I had a feeling it was one of them. If it wasn’t on there it would’ve been on one of the other discs from that period, X-Static Goldmine or Remix! or something.
As for keeping things organised, I bet my collection is far worse than yours! If you’ve got a Mac, you can use something like to organise and search your sample collections. It’s also got a ton of other useful features too, like auto-splitting CD tracks into individual samples. The only drawback is finding enough time to categorise everything!

spoonwzdParticipantThanks for the info!
I have a new sample find request.
He’s the sample from the mod – any idea where I can find it? I can’t even confirm the source.

The first one is from The Orb – Blue Room, the 40 minute version. It appears around the 30 minute mark, you can hear it at the end of this , about 9.45 in. Unfortunately I don’t have a copy of the full length track, but that’s the source. The second one is pretty generic, so it doesn’t spring out, I’ll have a listen about and see if I can spot it.

drunkenbakerParticipantI’m still here! (although I have stopped receiving topic update emails)
I have to admit, I think you’ve got me stumped on these two. Since I posted last I’ve been through thousands of breaks, imported the rarest sample CDs from faraway lands (well, Germany) and listened to who knows how many tunes, and I just can’t find them. It’s driving me mad!
I’ve tried: X-Static Goldmine 1, 2, 3, and 4, XL-1, Danger 1, XX Large The Killer 1 and 2, Alpha Dance 1, Best Service 1500 Classic Drumloops, Zero G Datafile 1, 2 and 3, Megabass Remix! 1 and 2 plus some of the Beats, Breaks and Scratches series. I’ll keep listening though, and I’ll let you know if I come across either of them.
(this is where you tell me you’ve spotted them both on the b-side to a Prodigy record or something!)
AdSense 336x280September 26, 2013 at 9:05 am #700415
spoonwzdParticipantWow, it really has been ages but I’m happy to say I’ve picked this project back up and have managed to progress quite a bit – I am nearly up to 18 minutes completed on the audio now.
I’ve made a couple of previews available on SoundCloud – check them out:
[url:23e0ok7b]https://soundcloud.com/spoonwizard/jesus-on-es-teaser-preview[/url:23e0ok7b]
[url:23e0ok7b]https://soundcloud.com/spoonwizard/jesus-on-es-teaser-preview-2[/url:23e0ok7b]
I’ve started to come up against some sounds I can’t find again. Anyone still monitoring this thread/able to help?
AdSense 336x280September 26, 2013 at 9:19 am #700416
drunkenbakerParticipantHow surprised was I to get an update notification on this topic! Great to see the project is still ongoing and that it’s sounding great, although it’s weird hearing the tracks without that unmistakable 8-bit Amiga sound
I’m still around so if you’re stuck for some of the sounds, let me know and I’ll try to track them down.
AdSense 336x280September 27, 2013 at 10:22 pm #700439
spoonwzdParticipantHey! I didn’t get an email notification when you replied. Looks like I need to watch this topic with a closer eye. 😐
if you have the mods handy, this is what I’m looking for:
– JOES Mod #04 – Sample index #01 & 02 – N-JoiQwikBass1 & 2 – Obviously taken from Adrenalin by N-Joi, but I need a cleaner sample if possible as the original source has some background crowd noise.
– JOES Mod #09 – Sample index #01 – BassySound1
– JOES Mod #11 – Sample index #05 – Speechy (Now hear this)
– JOES Mod #13 – Sample index #05 – OrbBeat2And from a production perspective, does anyone know of a plugin that will produce the kind of ‘Cream of the Earth’ style stuttering effect you achieved with the old ProTracker ‘A’ volume slide effect? Choppers don’t quite seem to cut it.
AdSense 336x280September 27, 2013 at 11:15 pm #700440
drunkenbakerParticipantI’ll get looking into them in more depth tomorrow, but right away I’ll say that ‘bassysound1’ from JOES09.mod is from the opening of Cubik by 808 State.

drunkenbakerParticipant‘orbbeat2’ is also from Blue Room (Full Length), at around 30:10 minutes in (see video), almost right after the other Orb sample!
