I absolutely love Daughter’s style of music. Its kind of ironic because I actually listen to and get inspired more from bands like Daughter (as compared to EDM which is the style I produce). Anyway, since this is my favorite song of their’s, I thought I would give it a shot to remix it.

Hi I’m not an expert on this but this is how I understand it…
While downloading copyrighted works such as acapellas is technically illegal I don’t think anyone is going to come and arrest or sue you because of it.
If you post a mashup/remix/cover of a track to YouTube, YouTube will automatically detect the tracks used in your mashup/remix/cover. If YouTube does detect that you are using copyrighted material then any royalties your video makes (ie $’s through advertising) will be given to the copyright holder of the piece of music (ie the artist, record label or publisher). Therefore you need not worry about posting mashups/remixes/covers etc…
However depending on the particular label or artist they may choose to block your video regardless.
If you are planning on selling your remixes or using them commercially in another way then that will get you in trouble though (although lots of artists do sell mixtapes etc on a small scale that feature copyrighted material and get away with it).October 11, 2014 at 5:19 pm #703488

But, if i buy vocal on, for instance at beatport, it means that i can use it anywhere (for promotion, ads) without any permission ?October 13, 2014 at 3:26 pm #703496

I would imagine almost certainly not, owning a copy of the track for your own private purposes (listening/remixing) is different to having the rights/permission to be able to play or distribute the track in public or use it in ads etc.October 14, 2014 at 10:07 am #703500
