DJ ValParticipantI know what you are all thinking
(Stop thinking how stupid I am!!) As I’m not very computer literate (when I was growing up in Zimbabwe they didn’t have computers not even in the college I went to) Now that I’ve given my damn age away, please can somebody explain to me the correct way of setting up a plugin in path I’ve download loads of plugins, and they are all over my computer. I have just got an external drive (H) so all my music programmes are there.
Do you make a sub folder in the programmes main file called plugins and extracrt them there or whats the story on the correct way. This is doing my head in and my music is suffering as I can’t give it any extra boosts.
Also I’m try to get a synth programme but don’t have midi keyboard so I’m wondering when I find one (links would help
) how would I set it up.
This dumb broad thanks you for your help

acheadKeymasterwhat i do is that i make a separate file from all of the programs named plugins and then do subfolders, one having VST and one having DX or such then link this directory with your programs

junoParticipantu want to have all of your plugins concentrated into one main folder. as long as u set the path to that folder in whatever program you’re using, the program will locate all the plugins (even if they are divided into subfolders). Some programs let u set multiple VST directories but its just easier to have all your folders for plugs under one main VST folder.

DJ ValParticipantThanks Gelo & Juno. What happens if you want to use the plugins with a number of programmes. I’ve got an external drive (H drive) for my music so I’ve got Sound Forge and Acid on the H drive. But when I start doing music stuff before I got the H drive I have a couple of programmes on my C drive.
How would I set up a path from both drives or can’t it be done.Cheers

steviemacParticipantwhat you should do Val is separate your drives completely so that all your programmes and software/softsynths etc. are on your C:drive and all your samples and write-to folders are on your other drive i.e h:drive. This is to eliminate your sequencing software/softsynths from working and reading from the same drive this in turn will give you better performance. As to where to put your plugin folders, well when you install your plugins you should put all the vst versions in one folder(most of them automatically goto or create, if it’s not there, a steinberg vst plugins folder), and i wouldn’t worry about where you put your DX plugins because your sequencing software should auto detect these when you do a simple scan or refresh.
