imakeblendzParticipanti started uot as a pure vinyl hip hop dj. but now i’ve come to like my numark CDX turntable better, because it sounds & feels like a turntable, but there are more possibilities with it than vinyl, esp. if you are remixing, becuase you can use the pitch-lock function to change the speed of acapellas to match to a beat, while still maintaining the original quality of the voice (sounds pretty good if you dont change the speed too drastically). also, u can download acapellas etc to use on your cd turntable that you might not be able to find on vinyl…plus vinyl is heavy and takes up a TON of room, while cd’s are way more compact…..plus you can use your existing collection of music on it. in the long run, cd turntables r cheaper.

SidReighnParticipant
I’ve been into electronic music and remixing for while now, but never got into djing. What are the differences between cd and vinyl turntables, and what are the pros and cons of both?
Just wondering because I was thinking about buy a set and don’t know which one to go with.[/quote:ux7pqu9e]
I was till recently a vinyl purest, not only for the fact that the sound feels more "warm" than digitally reproduced music, but because a lot of my old records are on beloved vinyl.
Now, this was till I got my Technics SLDZ1200 CD deck. Well, this has totally changed my standpoint. Not only can I burn all my precious and rare vinyl to disk, cleaning it up in the process, but I can if I like sell all my old and un-needed vinyl.
Digital files are easier for the home producer too, it takes the hassle out of getting acetates pressed. You can make a track, burn it to disc and play it in a set far quicker and easier than in the days of old. Plus, have you ever tried to carry a record box with a full sets worth of music in??!!!
I hate to say it, but digital is well the way its gonna be. BUT I WILL NEVER SELL MY OLD SKOOL RECORDS! EVER!!!

SidReighnParticipantdjdotcom wrote:vinylIn your opinion maybe. I stook steadfast and have only just found the benefits of them to be that beyond trusty vinyl. However, for scratchin I will never get rid of my 1210 and my trusty volume of scratch tools! No ammount of digital can beat analogue for scratching!!

Viynl feel with cd convience!AdSense 336x280December 21, 2006 at 10:26 am #607282
connerParticipantIf you want my advice and it’s a straight choice between vinyl and Cd i’d say Cd everytime. Cd’s are much easier to handle and a take a lot less space to store. Plus if you remix you can burn your own remixes to Cd and play em.

tmoskalaParticipanti’m using only cd…its very easy…vinyls aren’t so easy…

AdSense 336x280December 21, 2006 at 8:26 pm #607355
JuggernautParticipantbully for you.
DJing stuff you got off a shareware site (or a p2p site) is STILL wrong AND stupid.AdSense 336x280December 21, 2006 at 9:13 pm #607359
knyagudiParticipantCd’s are the current thing right now. The reason most professionals still use vinyls probably is coz that’s what they started out with or they have songs that u won’t find on cd.
AdSense 336x280December 21, 2006 at 10:27 pm #607378
bertrandParticipantAnother thing to consider is that is a lot easier to get the song you want on CD than on vinyl.

teknoboy420ParticipantThanks alot for all the helpfull responses guys. I’m glad to see that this is a popular topic. One thing I forgot to mention is that I remix mostly techno, trance, house etc. I hope this doesn’t interfere with the responses.

JuggernautParticipant
I think cd’s loose authenthicity and cd’s aren’t worth anything.
Vinyl always keeps it’s value or is worth more in the long run.[/quote:2xd0b1fc]
If you’re using your vinyl a hella lot, it will lose it’s value and quality for that matter as the grooves wear away from the continuous play. and if you accidentally scratch your record, you can’t recover from that.
Now i’m sure you’re going to say you’ve kept your records in pristine condition blah blah blah….
But not everyone does/can. With CD’s obviously they’re hardly going to be a collector’s item. But at the worst, you can copy that song/track onto your computer so if the worst were to happen (say, a scratch) you can burn another copy from the original.

AdSense 336x280January 4, 2007 at 7:18 pm #608904
Nitram_SMartyzParticipantI haven’t tried cd’s yet. But I don’t see the point anyway, I like to feel the vinyl. Yes they are expansive, but it does a cool collection when you begin to have a couple of them.

brichardsonParticipantI have got Technics decks & pioneer 200 CDJ’s and I’m slowly bying less & less records. Mainly because I can get most stuff of the internet. The only times I by vinyl is when you find those cheeky tunes that you know full well you aint gonna find on the net.
Ive got lots of vinyl and thinking of selling some of them on soon.AdSense 336x280January 5, 2007 at 10:54 am #608964
frankiedj86ParticipantI think that the cd is the best invention of the last 20 years… But i also think that the vinil has the best sound… I use only vinils
