teknoboy420ParticipantI’ve been into electronic music and remixing for while now, but never got into djing. What are the differences between cd and vinyl turntables, and what are the pros and cons of both?
Just wondering because I was thinking about buy a set and don’t know which one to go with.

chrishawesParticipantI have been Djing with Cd decks for 4 years and the increase in technology with the Pioneer CDj1000 Mk3’s allows you to do anything and make it sound good in a live situation. I personally feel whilst Djing on a laptop would sound really good, it doesnt look good and is not as hands on. I am for the CD-Decks all the way, get sum, your Djing will become much better and much more enjoyable.

travelan2ParticipantCD’s are much cheaper. When you want to mix some rock or non-electronic songs you should go for CD’s. When you want to spin electronic music, you need very expensive CD decks (PIONEER IDJ, etc).
For electronic music it’s best to use vinyls imho, especially if you are really serious and don’t want to spend a lot of money on the turntables/cd decks.AdSense 336x280December 9, 2006 at 12:52 pm #605170
JuggernautParticipantdj-kcez tranzistor wrote:CD players is much usefull than the vinyl decks (turntables) because u will get better sound qualitywasn’t going to say anything…but
Vinyl sounds WAY better than cd any day. For one it’s not compressed and the tonality of the sound is that much better over a live PA. Granted after a good few play’s the sound quality will deteriorate if you don’t know how to look after your vinyl (and general wear and tear). So ripping high quality 320kbps mp3 copies of mp3’s would be sufficient (if you know how to do it properly).AdSense 336x280December 9, 2006 at 7:11 pm #605204
tombeeParticipantvinyl all the way – especially if you’re into techno

Dj JamminParticipantVinyls all the way, i just bought pair of numark TT200’s and a 200 watt sound system. There’s something about vinyls the way you can see the breaks in the songs and the way they feel that just makes them better

JuggernautParticipantdj-kcez tranzistor wrote:what about the vinyl noiseGet better needles and take the time out to get some decent vinyl cleaner and an anti-static cloth and give them records some much needed TLC. if it’s noisy, it’s dusty/dirty.

bertrandParticipantWith electronic music, it’s digital anyway. How is vinyl any different from CD?
With other types of music, quality is lost when going from analog (DAT, tape, etc) to digital (computer, CD, etc.).. With music that starts off digital, what difference does it make?

SeanzaParticipantWith vinyl, the music is at your fingertips (literally).
Ofcourse with CDs etc, it’s great and probably alot easier.
Am not a turntablist of any sort, but a know for a fact that if a see a DJ with vinyl decks & a DJ with CDJs side by side and get asked which 1 a want to see play, am gonna choose the vinyl DJ.
A think it looks better and sounds the way it should!

AndyfaceParticipantVinyl = Costs less for the equipment… More for the records!!
CD = Costs more for the equipment… Less for the records!!
That pretty much sums it up i think!!

teknoboy420ParticipantI’ve been looking at the CDJ100k’s and wow are they expensive 1300 X 2, plus a good mixer, ouch! I would love to have those though : )
AdSense 336x280December 11, 2006 at 4:24 pm #605488
Dj JamminParticipantI honestly think vinyls will always be there whereas cd’s are gonna fade out

SeanzaParticipantDj Jammin wrote:I honestly think vinyls will always be there whereas cd’s are gonna fade outCDs will never fade out for storing audio on, maybe just as a CD but not as an MP3 disk…way too useful.
Mind you, with the iPod turntables coming up & some mixers with built in MP3 players then you might be right.

JuggernautParticipant…vinyl has been dieing a slow painful death over the past 15/20 years now. How many small record stores get closed because people aren’t supporting vinyl like they used to? Check your local HMV…does it have a vinyl section? it doesn’t really compare to the rest of the store now does it??…
Also what with Blueray and the other disk…i forget is it HD something-or-other? vinyl will be around but only for those die-hard fans that don’t mind forking out almost a tenner for 2 record that probably have anywhere between 2 or 5 tracks per record.AdSense 336x280December 11, 2006 at 6:21 pm #605527

AdSense 336x280December 13, 2006 at 1:56 am #605908
djmystery24Participanti got both cd turntables and technics 1210’s turntables…vinyl is the greatest way to get a live party goin or anything because the cuts from the beats or vocals r tru and actual…the ones of cd are simulated to sound kind of the same…
AdSense 336x280December 13, 2006 at 10:58 am #605967
StefanReuterParticipantIf you want to remix some songs you can take
und dj software like, BPM Studio or AtoMix MP3… Vinyls are great, but for mixing vinyls you need 2 turntables …AdSense 336x280December 13, 2006 at 12:14 pm #605979
JuggernautParticipantsurely that’s the same for cd’s though?

relbournParticipantWell CD’s if mixing or flare isn’t important. You’d be alrite if you were just doing a party and music quality was important.
I prefer vinyls, ALWAYS vinyls
