acheadKeymasterAbleton’s excellent. The only major drawback is the amount of harddrive space it takes if you’re going to have a decently long set–all of the clips are stored as .wavs, which take up a lot of space on my meager 100GB laptop harddrive. Anyone have suggestions to keep the storage overhead down?

pookloveParticipantNever used Ableton for live DJ use. I do use it for all my production though. I also have Pro-Tools and Logic but prefer ableton over them all. What are the advantages of using Ableton to DJ?

habebemusicParticipantDoes anyone have a DJing with Live file Template with the keyboard setup up as the controller..
AdSense 336x280April 27, 2007 at 7:15 pm #619949
whyknowsParticipantI am an enthusiastic user of Live both in the studio and on stage. I have only recently started using Live as a dj Tool although i have been using the program in the studio since version 3. I also recently bought an M audio x session pro usb dj mixer ( a score for like 50 pounds ) and i can assign tracks to A n B and then midi assign the x session’s crossfader and other parameters. To say the least its a whole lot of fun and the possibilities are fantastic. My two cents…Space
although i was just at a party where the djs were using seratto and it looks sweet the bed also,,,,horses for corsesAdSense 336x280April 30, 2007 at 1:16 pm #620169

gaborParticipanti use ableton live 6 with my M-Audio X-session pro, works nice, but beatsliceing the songs is the most timecraveing and boring about it.

acheadKeymasterHere’s some of my thought’s with Abelton so far:
1- Abelton is a great tool for production & jamming live yes.
2- "Mixing in abelton, as in 1 track to 2 or even with 3 takes no "beat matching" or synchronicity skill at all
.
3-If you are using loops and playing keys or a line in -> vox, saxaphone on top , while trigger ing new loops etc, then bravo you are adding skill, but thinking you are a dj by eqing tracks together that are already pre sliced to tempo is fooling yourself. a real dj beat matches on the go – serato , vinyl or cds. period, imo.4-for those people finding the time stretch a little not so good in Abelton, try "the amazing slow downer" the algorhythm is the best around I have found. get that hip hop tempo accapella closer to the house beat first with it, then bring it into abelton, will sound better.
5-I used to use reason and it was great for creating beats, I ‘ve only really started with abelton for a month or so now production wise, and find it great for loops , but trying a bit for creating drums, I have the trigger finger and can’t seem to get it to trigger the impuse cells. anyone with some ideas? device is set in Midi proper, and works with the battery demo.. (oh yeah and I loaded enigma and set the Abelton default patch to the trigger finger)
6- the sound is much better than reason , but when you render and use a multiplexor in logic for the final master it comes alive even more.
ez,
Alphabeat

acheadKeymasterim using the ‘live’ machine.! long live ableton
AdSense 336x280May 2, 2007 at 1:30 am #620367
acheadKeymastermost definatly use Ableton for everything. isn’t the most powerful for tracking audio instruments but for djing and making beats and electronic shit it kills the rest.
AdSense 336x280May 2, 2007 at 11:34 am #620387
acheadKeymasterjust curious but how do you use ableton live to DJ? or how do you use it while dj;ing?
AdSense 336x280May 2, 2007 at 12:37 pm #620399
fzkParticipantlive is the best thing i ever came across as a producer and a dj… it has the best interface, which make it so simple to use that you really dont have to learn it.
dj’ing with ableton is great, you can play multiple tracks simultaneously, loop it, put effects etc. unlimited possibilities. especially if you have a nice midi on you.
for all the faqs check ableton site, there’s a big forum which can help you get started: http://www.ableton.comAdSense 336x280May 3, 2007 at 5:17 pm #620532
hamburgerParticipantI love live. for those of you who are new to live check out the videos on the site. they should give you the basics on most of it capabilities.

acheadKeymasterableton live is pretty decent. they are also stateside now from what i read in musician’s friend. they also have excellent promotion with all m-audio products. i vouch.

fmfozzyParticipantHaven’t used it for dj’ing yet but hope to get round to it one of these days, would like to run it off a mac though!
AdSense 336x280May 8, 2007 at 9:21 am #620906
acheadKeymasterIMO you really cant go wrong with Ableton live v6.0. especially for production.
Its easy to use even for new kids.
Its got a smokin interface.
It converts to to wav so you can burn your tracks once you’ve produced/remixed.
Its easy to use!

eatmoreokraParticipantI’m a busy audio professional and though I own just about everything, sometimes dragging out Logic to make quick tracks is a total drag and takes FAR too much thought. For the best experience in quick music production, great live performance and killer DJing, I highly recommend the following gear:
Ableton Live
Faderfox LC2 (http://faderfox.de/) <— if you have not seen a Faderfox module, you’re totally missing some cheap, awesome gear.
A good external audio device (I prefer the Mbox 2).
NI Komplete (with or without Kore)
A good dynamic mic.
Akai MPD24.If you have the setup above you can do ANYTHING.
Ableton rules the universe.
