acheadKeymasterYup, just ended a veeery long session of recording part of my vinyl into ye old powerbook, beatmatched most of it. I must say, for beat oriented electronic music this would have been done in a jiffy, but now I’m figuring out how to treat the soul, disco, funk and other stuff that where recorded with instruments. Puting the markers in the right place can be a problem, also varying speed in one song is something I have to give some thought on how to do it in the best manner.
However, Live combined with my BCR2000 is a blast, really, and with ten tracks only I find myself playing around for hours on end. Lots of fun, I tell you!
Got four tracks set up as mixer, the other buttons are assigned to effects, like triggering the Reversinator vst plugin on each track and whatnot.
Ofcourse, the first live performance went haywire , being not prepared enough. Tracks I forgot to save didn’t show up correctly, but hey that’s part of the fun & better luck next time lol.AdSense 336x280January 13, 2007 at 2:06 pm #609808
acheadKeymasteri too love using ableton live to mix i just recently got 6.0.3 version and have begun exploring production!! ableton in my opinion will be the future of djing live and music production!! it allows you to do so much an all in real time so you can be free!! ableton rocks!!

acheadKeymasterI love ableton to bits, but I’ve never tried properly dj’ing out with it. I’ve made up a few mashup mixes with it that have been played on local radio shows tho.

acheadKeymasterdoes anyone know of any decent tutorials on how best to use Ableton in a Live situation? I’ve only really used it in Arrangement view, and although there are some built-in tutorials that take you through the Session view, I still haven’t really got to grips with it.
Do people use the Session view more for DJing?

acheadKeymasterI use everything, ableton is pretty much the only computer based program i use to mix/remix, bar a small wave editing program.
i find it works for me great, i even attended a tutorial by monolake – the guy who created it.

acheadKeymasterYeah, I’m new to this whole thing but a Ableton Live 5 fell into my hands a few weeks ago and have been toying with for a while. Dig the program although it doesn’t seem as "newbie" user friendly as Acid.

trillioncutsproParticipantis ableton worth it?
AdSense 336x280January 17, 2007 at 1:04 pm #610353
acheadKeymasteri love Live but it really sucks how ableton have changed the scene selector behaviour in v6.
You can’t scroll through scenese from your midi controller without the waveform (clip view) changing, so now I’m having to use the mouse to fire clips whilst monitoring the wave of the existing track…
other than that, it is rockin…

acheadKeymasterwent from cd to vinyl then all cd then all Ableton and now I’m using all three which seems to be the best medum

acheadKeymaster

I now own Live about a year. First i really liked live but was not able to work fine with this prog on stage without a controller. After checking the market i didn´t find any controller that fits my needs. So I decided to create my own controller. Here you can see it:
The controller is created out of a kit of several modules that can bought/seen on the midibox.org website. By the way that is a great site too!
No that i can control all my functions i need via midi it really kicks ass on stage! The last 3 months i worked on a set for a live gig and with my controller this works definitely fine for on-stage-remixing!

DAAAAAAAAM Son…
that is the business right there…
If you don’t mind me asking, how long did it take you build that controller & what are the main expenses????
I’ve been using Live for a little over 8 months now & just started to incorporate it into my deejaying with an UC-33e & a Trigger Finger…. but that is an adaptation on what i would really like to do… which is have total control one one midi output which will help me start performing my own stuff live….
BTW… what kind of sound cards are you guys using… I’m on the Audiophile FireWire… but wanted to get some feedback on what others are using….[/quote:2krqpo6z]
I second that!!! one of the nicest laid out midi boxes I’ve seen, nice one!
Ableton is definitely a great program–I use it as a live looper for bass, keys, guitar, and drums with the session view, and do more "studio" stuff in the arrager view. Live 6 has introduced some pretty cool features.AdSense 336x280January 21, 2007 at 9:20 pm #610812
acheadKeymaster
Im wondering about the DJ’ing with Ableton.
I never tried Abelton but far as i know u can make a production live or tweak a track but how does it work for DJ’ing if u dont want to tweak the track?
Is it something like the final scratch?[/quote:1otwiw6f]It’s nothing like final scratch as it doesn’t utilize any analog means of distributing digital music. The Ableton Live platform interface literally turns the performer into a producer, and the producer into a performer overnight. With basic production knowledge, a fledgling performer can hone his arrangement skills and quickly create digital ready tracks or mixes to distribute over the net. Likewise, producers who have traditionally stayed within the realms of the studio are now finding themselves venturing out to perform on their laptops as a DJ with midi interfaces and other compatible gear to produce memorable shows. The simple ease of use within this software allows for creativity to literally flow uninterrupted…

Dj Michele CiuoffoParticipantI use Ableton Live EXCLUSIVELY FOR PRODUCING… Deejaying is a vinyl+Cdj thing… you gotta feel it… using a computer doesn’t show your skillz!

Yeah, we only use Ableton for production as well … no disrespect to laptop DJs, but we prefer the CDJs … and CDJs don’t crash in the middle of a set!
AdSense 336x280February 1, 2007 at 6:06 pm #611865
acheadKeymasterI use ableton aswell but only for production. Other than that I use vinyl and soon will by a cdj so I can play my production tracks live. Ableton is good cause, you can rewire FL studio, Melodyne, reason and Cubase right into Ableton to make it a monster program.
AdSense 336x280February 2, 2007 at 5:18 am #611913
dluxxParticipantJust got the Demo version of Ableton 5 and it looks the business.
My only problem is getting to know this monster without a user manual. Anyone got links to good tutorials for beginners?
From the comments made about this program I am keen as hell to master this beast.

acheadKeymasterI may have to check out Ableton. looks like a hugely recomended program. also that controler on the first page is awesome.

acheadKeymasterI started using ableton as a writing and production tool, then started using it to run loops and sequences in a live band format, running it from my e-mu controller (on top of the nord electro) – just making sure the drummer can hear my monitors, and for the last week i’ve been preparing to use it for dj sets. It’s incredible that a piece of kit can be used in so many different ways/so many different genres. I’m still using 5, but can’t wait to upgrade.
oh – and that controller! – so nice. Please more info on building one like it!

acheadKeymasterAbleton is the program what got me into production to start with. I’ve worked (and still do now and then) with nuendo and pro-tools…
Perhaps it’s my lack of pro-tools knowledge, but I can’t build a drum-track (loops, timestretched and everything) within 15 minutes… In ableton live I can…AdSense 336x280February 8, 2007 at 7:08 am #612507
aretzkiParticipantI use ableton too – today is my first some sort of gig – i’ll be doing ambient and trip hop stuff for djembe drummers to jam with.
i use live 5 with my Behringer UMX25 – didn’t really find a use for all these knobs yet, still trying, though, and a Line6 tone port UX2- i’ll be processing audio from my mate’s didgeridoo using a condenser mic.

dluxxParticipantCould anyone steer me in the direction of a decent MIDI controller, and explain the relationship it has with Ableton. I am looking to invest in one asap.
Cheers
