ktierney007Participantthe only thing that lets them down is the build quality. I’d be wary of buying a second hand unit online, unless it’s bought from a trusted seller/member tbh. The cost of a "good" second hand akai i’d stil prob just buy a new one just for the warranty. Some DIY units have more functions than the akai and surprisingly have better build as well. in someway’s i prefer the option of a second hand launchpad and a midi mixer for the extra controls found on the akai.

ktierney007ParticipantHi all,
Currently been using Ableton for about a month now and now getting there. Next step is to buy a mixer and am in the hunt for a 2nd hand (good condition!) Akai APC 40. Anyone help me out?
Alternatively if anyone has any bad experiences of the APC 40 then now is the time to tell me!?

unmarkedParticipantJust a guess.. but it’s probably fresh. I have an old mpd 16 and it does it’s thing solid… The apc is probably 50 x’s better… go with it…

jaredweissParticipantI’ve used the APC20 before and I loved it. From the looks of it, the APC 40 can only be better.
While the APC certainly is an amazing controller, I personally settled with the Novation Launchpad. Its pretty much the same thing, but without the faders and knobs. Its an 8×8 grid of buttons. While it doesn’t sound as awesome as the APC, don’t ignore it. I’d recommend taking a look at it too. The buttons are substantially bigger, and it works really well. If you need the faders and rotary encoders though, then go with the APC. Otherwise, I’d take a serious look at the launchpad. It can do a lot.*In making your decision, look online on youtube for video reviews of the devices. Chances are, you’ll learn some stuff you didn’t know and it will likely help in your decision.
