so,
despite the fact you tend to compress pc/mac data, too(in case your HD is running out ouf space;
Compression in music is for shaping a sound (keys, guitars, bass, drums, percussion or vocals) so it will fit better in an arrangement, stand out or to gain more pressure out of it.
In addition, the dynamics of a stereotrack can be compressed to have the possibility of raising the general level oder to give it more punch. (Some new stuff called "transient designer" can do it at the same time and in a slightly different way than a compressor.)
With Compression you can design the dynamic image of a sound. It is not strictly a must on every track because with too much of it you can easily wreck your music if you are not aware why, when and where you want to use it, by killing too much of the dynamic range music needs to be music
While using compression, more is not always the best, think musically when it comes to compress tracks and sounds.
That means open your ears and think of which purpose you want your music to serve. (Club, Easy Listening, Ballad, Dance, Rock, Hiphop)
The most important parameters of a sound/compressor are: attack(when the sound starts)
/release(when and how the sound develops and ends)
and plus you got:
threshold (the level at which the compressor starts to work)and:
ratio (how much(amount of)compression)
These are not the complete features and theres much more to know, just to keep your mind workin |
