To be quite honest I use fruity loops all the time and have never found the need for anything better. You just really need to spend time with it to work out everything you can do. And with the lastest versions coming with so many synths and gerators then your rarely going to need live samples.

Its a program that lets you set up your own loops like a beat machine. You can add FX or use VSTs like keyboards and other instruments. the only place I see it lagging behind is as a sequencer or mastering tool. Many people will say they get an excellent sound out of FL but you cant get the pro sound with only this program. The sampling just isnt good enough. The FL engine takes alot of PC usage so if you have too many VSTs, FX, and regular channels playing it wont play at 100% speed - hard to notice but it does happen. I usually run my loops through Audition to clean up the sound. Then I put them into Live, which I recently started using, to sequence them and add any additional effects. LiVE has a very clean sound. Those who live by sound quality will tell you to use a combo of programs instead of just one. It also helps you to become more versatile in producing.

On fruity loops tho...
I've been using FL for the last year and abit, but the samples in the packs are really weak, and even when i put effects on them I still dont get that ferry corsten or paul van dyk sound out of it. it has very good imitations of 404's and such but it doesn't do for me what I've wanted it to. Maybe I just never really learned to use it to its full potential...anywayz ive since gone on to reason 2. FL is 16 bit and Reason is 32, plus its got a Re-Drum, which provides me with all my samples that I need provided with the two refill packs, basically a GIG of samples. It isn't very user friendly, but I find it better than FL. lol I guess it all boils down to opinion. Oh and yeah I wouldn't of known how to use reason if I didn't find a helpful tutorial online showin me the ins and outs. otherwise ur lost |
