ChunkyEatsMyDinnerParticipantHas anyone been using the Flex audio and Time and Pitch machine in Logic 9?
Im still with Logic 8 and the audio timestretching is shocking! Actually the worst ive ever used.
Have Apple actually sorted this out at last?
If i upgrade to LP9 can i finally get my Cubase on Ebay and start using Logic for timestretching tasks?
I really like Cubase for this as u can instantly grab the corner of an audio file, drag it to desired length,
maintain pitch and reasonable sound quality, and not have to sit for 5 minutes worrying about destroying
the original audio file while the samples process!Ive been through the videos on Youtube etc. But does it actually work?
Are there any algorithms which actually sound half decent while maintaining the original pitch of the song?AdSense 336x280May 19, 2010 at 12:37 am #679594

ChunkyEatsMyDinnerParticipantYeah i recently come across that, Ill probably have to email Izotope about this but ill ask while im here…
I see it will integrate with Time and pitch machine but can you select Radius algorithms while in flex mode?Oh the joys of software shopping!

coojuiceParticipantI’ve used it mainly on vocal parts (using the monophonic algo) and I can say that it works pretty well. Like most of these tools for flexing audio, they work to a certain extent. The slice algo is good for working with perc loops and is a lot quicker than having to manually chop them up. I’ve tried the polyphonic on guitar and even full tracks and even this seems not too bad.
One other pretty cool thing you can do with it is to inset a track and set the project bpm to match the track (check with bpm counter or the manual approach), then turn on fle for the track and you can change the bpm of the track to what you like (sort of like apple loops). This is useful for remixes.
Hope this helps

ChunkyEatsMyDinnerParticipantSounds interesting, and a very handy feature for matching audio to midi if changing project tempo during the track.
The only way i could see this being done automatically b4 was actually recording the audio file into the project so Logic
would assume its BPM is the same as the project.
All the features seem to be hidden in dark vaults of the code, im thinking i should re-phrase my question to;
‘Can a muppet like me actually work out how to do these things?!’Had a proper play with Cubase again 2day 2 weigh up things… its gotta go, the workflow is great but not quite Logic.
Have decided im gonna go for LP9 and Radius as soon as I paid my mum back for the bail money…. (dont ask!)
Thanks for ur responses

It’s pretty easy to get the hang of it once you have a play about. Basically, all you have to do is turn flex view on then you initiate each track with one of the algorithms. I would say it’s similar to to ableton in ways but I find it far easier to work with.
Macprovideo has a great video tutorial on it which goes right into detail on it’s functions and uses: [url:2vqy1dal]http://www.macprovideo.com/tutorial/logic9104[/url:2vqy1dal]
They also have some other great logic tutorials: [url:2vqy1dal]http://www.macprovideo.com/tutorials/logic-application[/url:2vqy1dal] I’ve bought about 5 of them now and found them all helpful.
If you create an account with them and hold off purchasing for a while, you will receive an email when they have special offers on, which usually give you 33% off. I have never bought one full price as I think they are slightly expensive but the reduced price is definately worth it.
Hope this helps.
