It's been in the rumour mill for a while but it's finally here:

To be honest I have to admit I am thoroughly unimpressed by it. The ability to share digital sources is hardly an innovation (Denon have been doing that in their rack-mount Twin CD players for ages), as neither is the needle drop thingy
(to me thats always been a no-brainer and I'm really surprised it taken this long!) They keep banging on about the Rekordbox thing too but all that is is just an organiser, an nothing better than many freeware apps out there. The most interesting aspect is the ability to act as a midi controller but I'm sure they've already done that with the CDJ400, the only difference here being that its in their "look what we can afford" player. They've also chucked in the ability to play (the grand total of) 4 different formats off DVD. Woo, as they'd already got the tech to read a DVD in a DVJ.

What would have been interesting is if they had of combined the best of Serato Live without needing anything other than a USB cable and a laptop. Imagine rocking up to a venue that has two linked CDJ2000's. You just plug your laptop into one of the CDJ's USB ports and the audio from the PC gets routed through the CDJ's own ouputs while the CDJ's themselves just act as a midi controller... No extra boxes that can fail or lose power. All while still retaining the CD (and MP3 on CD-ROM/DVD) capabilities at the flick of a button. That would also mean no more messing about with phono leads underneath mixers while setting up or what-have-you (like serato or other harware boxes)... However I have no doubt that sort of thing will end up in the CDJ2000 Mk2 or 3. Which is a bit annoying as there should be everything, hardware wise, in the CDJ2000 to already do this.

Did you even have a look at any of the video reviews? lol

As stated above, this is exactly how these new cdjs work. The Rekordbox software is used prior to a gig for sorting out all of your tracks to an external usb drive, adding tracks, cue points etc then you simply turn up with your usb drive and plug it into one of the cdjs.

I'm still not sure why they decided to include an actual cd player with these new products though. They could have cut costs and made them without as they do seem a bit pricey!

I find it very unlikely that anyone buying these are going to actually use cds when they can simply plug in a usb stick...

They should definately make a cut down version of these as mentioned without CD/DVD play back to cut prices. But wait whats this.. NO NTFS!?!?!?!?!? fortunatelly I've recently moved to Mac so all my externals are gradually changing now but I reckon alot of people will buy these not realizing that they fail to support this format, or worse still turn up to a venue with them installed in the hope of using them for this feature only to find your whole record collection is completely unuseable! hopefully a firmware update will sort this out!? I guess if these become standard it may well be the CDJ-900s as I'm not convinced the 2000s merit the extra £400 for what.. DVD playback, SD (this might swing a few people) and some incredibly minor audio play back quality improvements (Can't see people noticing a difference when they are using compressed formats!)?

Overall thou they look impressive!

It looks good, but I'd take the Denon DN-S3700 over it anyday.

It looks good yeah, and I am looking forward to test it. But I won't buy it, still doing turntables.

the CDJs need pitchbend buttons - that way u don't have to try mixing with the jogwheel like a damn vinyl for minor corrections to stay on-beat.

Oh man I got to get my hands on these while visiting a DJ shop in downtown Tokyo they are sooo nice! As for the comment about having direct connectivity with Serato, that would be incredible. I have to be honest, yes they do almost do what Serato does but in reality.... not even close. The ability to quickly type with a keyboard the name of a song in your library and bring it up will always always always be better than what you can do with a tiny control panel on a CDJ - that alone makes it nowhere near what Serato provides as far as accessibility. I don't honestly see having to dial in your track on that little knob as being a monumental innovation but it is, however, a major step in the right direction. The ability (not just ability, but technological ENCOURAGEMENT) to evolve from CDs to flash drive is very delightful and the LAN connectivity really just goes above and beyond, great job on that one Pioneer!

They did include a auto 4-beat loop button on the CDJ2000 as well as your 3 hot cues/loops but I really would've loved to see them include the full auto-loop section from the CDJ800/900 and also have hot cueing on the CDJ900 that really would've been a stark improvement on what these things pack feature-wise. But as us DJs have learned from Technics 1200s, its not entirely about features but reliability and longevity which nothing has to be said for Pioneer we all know what quality of equipment they make.

What do you guys think?

I still prefer the "good old" vinyl...
Especially I don't like these overloaded "High-Tech"-toys, you know, those with much2much knobs and functions noone really needs.
Though I like pioneer and its quality I wouldn't buy this one...
