Before Putting an acapella to a new beat:

Is there any way to automatically quantify the tempo in an accapella in order to put the right beats over it so the BPM matches straight away? - ie If you know the Acapella is around 87 tempo then you can lay down 87 BPMs with a pretty immediate close match.

I use FL Studio (for the beats) , Cubase VST, Sound Forge

My only experience so far has been manually throwing a 12" over tracks in Cubase. This is fine because all i have to do is change the pitch control on the deck to match the BPM and the pitch change is never too severe. The thoughts of doing something similar to this on a pc is freakin me out.
ie: play acapella and count tempo, put in FL channel, then lay down bass drum and snare, then change tempo of beats to match more, then playback etc etc

I can kinda think of a few other awkward ways but if anyone has fine tuned the process i'd love to know.

Keep it surreal

I've always found that FL Studio is good for making music but not for putting it together. I would use a different sequencing program like ACID or the Vocalign program that Lewelsch recommended.

you should use acid to beatmap the vocals and extract your FL loops into acid.

Thanks everyone, much appreciated.
I found the link cee-t so i'll have ago at this over the weekend, nice one http://audacity.sourceforge.net/.
Will using this mean that I won't need to use Acid cos I ain't got it yet? Once I know the exact tempo of the vocals I reckon I can do what I gotta do in FL and Cubase... If Acid would make the process much easier I might go get it though. Any advice?
