Here at Acapellas4u we regularly hold fantastic competitions with absolutely Awesome prizes! Keep an eye out within here for the next one and you could be a winner!
Without further ado, it's over to the CutUpBoys...
The CutUpBoys wrote:First of all we'd just like to say how much we've enjoyed listening to these mixes over the past couple of weeks. The quality of the entries was absolutely superb, massive respect to all of you and thankyou so much for all the hard work you've obviously spent putting these together. Thanks also to Acapellas4u for asking us to judge and being by far the best site of its kind. It's been so so hard choosing the winners and we've changed our minds a number of times. Several of the entries were in contention for top honours and such was the effort put into so many of them that it almost feels wrong to have to pick between them. There are some really superb mixes that didn't make it and i hope no one is disheartened if they are not in the following list of winners. It should also be mentioned that a few mixes couldn't be considered due to rule infringements such as being too long... mentioning no ecologically industrious Scandinavian names that would have been strong contenders otherwise. We should also make it clear that we were really into mixes of all styles - house/rock/ trance/experimental etc - and overall we've been enjoying these styles equally across all the entries. If the winners don't perhaps represent the full range of these styles we can assure you that these tracks are listed here because they are, in our mind, the best conceived and executed mixes... not because they are of a certain style.
Thanks again for everyone who has organised, participated and taken and interest in this competition. I'm sure we all agree this is a great site, big up to all crew!!
The CutUpBoys wrote:This unapologetic, smiling party mix is quite simply the one that ticked all our boxes. What it lacks in total clinical production perfection it makes up for many times over in sheer vibrancy. Grabs you by the scruff of the neck from the start and keeps you interested and tapping your feet from start to finish. Loads of brilliant hooks which always sound right coming in. The acapellas all worked well and were really tidily incorporated. The beats just kept coming in with fresh energy. More than any other mix it left us wanting more. Respect.
The CutUpBoys wrote:Seriously good production, sublime track selection and a rock solid groove - this is a really classy piece of work. A great theme followed through to perfection. The mixes are silky smooth and all the vocal samples are brilliantly worked in to a complement the music. The quality of the production was absolutely top notch with some really clever, skillful and effective moves and a superbly balanced sound. It seems churlish to suggest that maybe it would have been nice to hear a bit more pella-wise because this is such perfectly enjoyable bit of music and a sublime megamix.
The CutUpBoys wrote:Absolutely brilliant. Balances gracefully on the line between cool and fun. You're still smiling at the Spongebob kick off as you get into a consistently headnodding sequence of tracks that all flow nicely into each other whilst being interesting and never letting go of the groove. The acapellas and samples sew everything together really nicely. The production is nice and tight and tidy and the arrangement never feels rushed or boring. Great party mix.
On behalf of the Acapellas4U staff, I want to reiterate what the CutUpBoys said - it was a real pleasure to listen to these great entries and we are really happy with the amount of interest this competition has generated. Congrats to our three winners (Unkh, Rhythm Scholar, and Fazage) and the many other talented entries. A special thankyou goes out to Matt & Nick from the CutUpBoys and everyone who had input in making this comp go ahead!
Congratulations to the winnners. It takes dedication to create mixes like that, and the quality shines through. I especially enjoyed Funk Solution. Just my kind of thing. Well done all involved.
Thanks to acapellas4u for having this competition. I had a blast working on my track. It was a lot of fun exploring some of the ideas I had. The rules made the possibilities so varied and open-ended but yet helped guide me to some very specific goals.
Matt and Nick: Your comments about the winning tracks were Excellent! Thank You for taking the time to express some of what you felt about the individual tunes. It really makes a big difference to hear some specifics, good or bad, when getting feedback.
unkh: Great mix, man! What a varied collection of funky s**t. Well crafted. What are you going to buy with your winnings? I was also reminded about a remix of Janet Jackson's Nasty that I started a couple years ago. I may have to get back to that one.
Hippomothamus: I really like that Family Guy Milkshake part. Hahaha. I just listened to it again. Beastie Boys fan, are you?
phatplastic: Thanks, Man! There may be some other stuff you'd like at my website. My 'Genius Of Love' mixes go off a few funk tangents. Let me know if anything else clicks with you.
Guess it's my turn to let you know what I did order at The Midi Store.
