I really don't understand why people upload their tracks with a video to youtube for others to listen to and give feedback when youtube clearly does your audio tracks no favours
Is it just me or is this a no brainer?
If it were me that wanted some honest opinions about some track I had produced I would look at getting it to the listener in the best possible format so they can actually hear what it sounds like!
On another side note, why is it everyone is uploading tracks with a video now anyway? We are supposed to be using our EARS!!!
One last thing that annoys me: Going on a treasure hunt to find some folks tracks!!!
What happened to a good old "here's a link to download this track if it tickles your fancy"?
Now you have to rake through video players, playlists, become a member, wait 5 minutes to download, follow the little man...
OK, rant over! lol
But seriously, is this just me being picky or am I actually giving some pointers here?
You decide... |

No, it's all true what you're saying!
Truth be told i've shied away from downloading people's stuff completely for a while. I did it once a week ago...horrible experience it must be said.
And yeah i've noticed this youtube phenomena. I guess it's the fact that it's free so you upload your track with a still image or some shiz and hey presto.
It's beyond me. Get a free website, up your tracks, use a template (or use multiply if that's still around?) and it's a job done. |

| I have to agree with you on all this. i hate when someone wants you to listen to their track, and then you're sent on some crazy hunt. And still for some reason those people get more comments than someone who post direct links or uploads files! |

I agree with some of what you are saying.
If you are strictly talking about music then yes I would prefer to listen to the track in an easy to use player and if I like it then be able to download it. Of course the player should be able to play audio at a higher quality level than youtube.
Now having said that here is what I think about this.

Well it depends on what you mean by tracks with a video. If you mean that someone just stuck a still image and called it a video then yeah what's cool about that?
But if someone created a "MashUp" for instance and decided to create a video using material from a music video or concert footage from the artists used to make the mix then IMO it would make the overall experience that much better. As long as it is done well.
A crap mix is a crap mix and the same goes for videos.
But I'm a video dude and like to use my eyes and ears.
edit:After I finished posting this a member posted 6 new posts in the test pressing section and did exactly what TS was talking about.
An example of what TS is talking about here.
An example of what I'm talking about here. |

I was actually meaning both but I can see your point of view from a creative side with videos.
What I still don't get is why put it in the mashup area when there is clearly a VIDEO TEST PRESSING AREA designed specifically for this
If your wanting someone to give feedback on your audio track/s, PUT IT IN AN AUDIO RELATED SECTION at the best possible quality avaliable to you!
If you want someone to give feedback on your video/s, PUT IT IN THE VIDEO RELATED SECTION with the youtube link!
If you would like feedback on both... USE BOTH! lol
Out of curiosity, how many people actually post a video and want feedback on it? I've never took the time to look through them and i'm more interested in the music anyway but would be nice to know ;)
From what i've seen video wise here most of them are simply someones audio mashup added to the original video. What is the actual point in that? Is it some kind of smoke screen for a poor audio track?
I hope you can prove me wrong folks... |

Are you saying there's something WRONG with being "old" or "cranky"??? 'Cuz if you are, then we got to have words!
You're preaching to the saved as far as I'm concerned. If you're going to post a link to your audio mashup (blend, whatever) it should be a link with at least quality audio. If you want feedback you should at least make the link one where a person can listen and/or download the file without signing up for anything or even clicking more than twice.
But then, my momma' raised me to be polite and this just ain't a polite world no more. |

No your not but who cares if you are. I like being old(33) and picky(because there is a lot of crappy stuff out there).

Well the video section is still pretty new to the site and you know how some people are just to lazy to actually post in the correct forum. Also some people just don't know any better.

Can't really prove you right or wrong. Again it is all about perspective.
Not many people create videos so therefore there are not many posts being made in the video section. From what I've seen there are only a handful of members posting videos with any real creative substance.
As far as someone putting an artists entire music video over there mix. All I can say is that they are trying to add to the overall experience of their track but are not actually making it better. It's not real creativity it's rather boring. |

| It should also be noted that Sony has a good, but cheap video editing program called Vegas. It has a direct upload to Youtube feature in it. I'm assuming a lot of people are using this. |

YouTube's easiest to use, and is really on the rise as far as viewers to the site, so you get a little bit of every kind of person going there.
About the videos, I like to make videos [especially with mash-ups, like stated above] but I don't feel it's mandatory. It is about the music. [as also stated above. lol.]
I feel if a listener wants to hear a higher-quality version of what's on YouTube, they can take 2 or 3 clicks over to my site and download it.
But that's just me. |

| I don't make videos for my tunes - I don't have the time to learn how - but I understand how having a video for a tune can increase it's market penetration (oooh, get me!) as a friend made a video for a couple of my mash-ups and the MP3s had far more downloads than other of my mash-ups. I agree, just having a static picture or slide-show is not going to add much, but having a proper video can help. |
