hey hey,
I'm about buy a DJ controller and it would be so nice if you guys can give me some informations and share your opinions and experiences. I would like to use a controller with built in soundcard on a PC laptop. I don't mind if it work with it's own software as long as it is good, but normally I use Ableton Live for productions. I'm thinking about to choose between the M-Audio Torq Xponent or the Vestax VCI-300. Or its should be the Allen & Heath Xone 2D or something else?

What do you think?

Out of the two you have there, I'd go with the Xponent, simply because it seems to have more knobs and buttons. I actually use a Vestax VCI 100, and I use it with Traktor.
Both controllers you have listed have their native programs, and I honestly don't like either one of them (Torq or Itch). The Xponent is going to be much easier to work with Ableton, as the VCI 300 might only work with Itch for now (you'll have to research the details of that).

As far as DJ'n with Ableton goes... Man... There's not a definitive way to do that, and I don't DJ with Live (yet), so I can't say what you would need. And by no definitive way to DJ with Live, I mean it's not necessarily mixing from Deck A to B, like you do in Torq, Itch, or Traktor.

Look up videos on YouTube of people DJ'n with Live, you'll probably get some ideas. You can also check out the Ableton.com forum, or Abletonlivedj.com forum.

Good luck mate!

THX weeddigger!
I forgot to update this thread!! I've found the solution and its none of these options. I got an AKAI MPD32 cos I can use it for more things than just DJing

THX again!!

An MDP32?!? Interesting... Have you used it to DJ? How's it work for you?

I usually just click, and i'm going for the x-session pro (just ordered) combined with a trigger finger for tripping samples. Will update...

I would go with the VCI. It's just more solid and works better.

I personally love to use a Launchpad for triggering clips on 4 different audio channels. Then I use a bitstream 3x to control volume and effects. It has 64 knobs that are all assignable. The APC 40 is a cool idea but you can only use one device at a time with the instant mapping technology and I frequently need to change multiple parameters at the same time ex: filter sweeps on 2 channels happening simultaneously. It really depends on how complex your mixing style is.

Similar - Omni, Traktor Pro but with 64 bit windows 7 PC. Works really well but would love to get a Traktor S4 when I have some spare cash.

I'm rocking Native Instrument's S4 and all I gotta say it's magic. If you say 4 decks are to much for me they also have S2. Better check it out before your purchase :tune

The dj controller is important but the music you play is more important...you have to feel the music and you will be a good dj
