The 1st tip I would give is never plan a set.
I NEVER plan in advance, its all about judging the crowds reaction.
With time you will start to learn which songs mix together well and where to mix them in and out.
If that style of music is working you will probably find yourself repeating these mixes from night to night.
If you could plan the perfect set the nightclubs could just buy the audio from the DJ and play it.

Are you specializing in any genre's or is it an across the board music policy?
(Ill backtrack slightly, there is some planning..... you need to find out what style of music they want!) Smilie_PDT

yer main room house is the plan so far , it a one off dance event / underground rave . My plan at the moment is to lay out a few tack groups for a begining middle and end and fill in the rest on the night . figard at least that hould give me some sort of stucture to work with , do u think thats a good way to go? im trying to model it on a set by David Guetta that i have a copie of , not the same set but gives me something to work from , do u think this is also a good idea ? or should i just fly by the seat of my pants on the night lol cheers

Its a very good idea to know what the big DJs a currently playing, I occasionally
model my sets on Fatboy Slim as I love his style of not caring about following the
trends or 'taking you on a journey' and just plays a good fun set.

I remember the 1st set I ever did, it was a competition.
I planned track by track what I was going to play and practiced the set over and
over for a week or 2 before the comp.
The 1st 20 minutes was going to be Trance, (it was in about 7 years ago)
About 2 songs in the crowd really wasnt enjoying it so gave up on that and dropped
The Jackson 5 - Blame it on the boogie.
The mood instantly changed and I just stumbled through with my VERY limited
collection of party songs then went into chart and commercial house.

I think you should do what ever makes you feel comfortable. Your idea sounds
ok to me. Also check out the BBC Radio 1 tracklistings page for sets and shows
played by Tong and the Trophy Twins. You will find some great tracks in there.

Keep in mind that playing the same as everyone else may not get you noticed.
Take some fun tunes or remixes of and take a guess (or a chance!) to see if they
work. Alex Gaudino - Watch out (nari & milani remix) is a fave of mine.
Also something like Fisherspooner Emerge (Daft Punk Mix) is a white I just found,
try searching for this.
(And heres a plug for myself) Embarassed My Professional Widow remix is getting very
good reactions here the Middle East.
Although the 2nd 'verse' needs changing, maybe Ill get it finished in time for your
gig! Smilie_PDT
