Don't send your moderator mates round to beat me up if you don't like this feedback...
Builds well, great chopping of the vocals, and I like how snippits of the Tori Amos bassline peak through the other bass.
Don't like the bass sound you've used after the break, it lacks the punch and grit of the original Camisra track. Interesting choice of synth later on, almost trancey. It seems to fit OK.
Perhaps the outro could do with trimming? |

Quite the opposite otg, your opinion is very much valued,
I really struggled recreating that original Camisra bassline but was determined not to
give in and use the original and decided to go for a deeper sound.
You have confirmed my feelings, the 1st chorus gets a great response from the
dancefloor but the 2nd doesnt seem to get as much enthusiasm.
I may go back and re-use the 1st bassline again and definitely shorten the end.
Thanks for your input. |

Thanks for the feedback ryu, the bassline was played with my untalented fingers and recorded as
Midi into the sequencer.
I can then go into the 'Piano roll' and tidy up the mistakes!
Ive been meaning to ditch that bassline and use a variation of the 1st bassline again
due to crowd response being far greater to the 1st verse.
I may try and find a way of keeping a small amount in the track now after all |

| WHAT YOU NEED TO DO, WHAT WOULD WORK FOR ME ANYWAY IS JUST CHANGE THE BASS SOUND TO A TOUGHER ONE LIKE THE THE ORIGINAL, AND MAYBE LAYER IT A BIT , OR SWAP THE 1ST BASS WITH THE SECOND SO ITS LIGHTER AT THE BEGINNING AND THEN KICKS INTO YOUR PREFERRED BASSLINE, JUST A THOUGHT , I LIKE IT ANYWAY |

Thats a tidy mix. I want to hear the Camisra bass sound tho because I feel it drives it on and is distinctive.
Would certainly go down well in a commercial club. I'd dance to it long before I've had a couple to many.
I'm just starting out tho.

Something a little different for you.
Essentially Tori Amos Professional Widow Vs Camisra - Let Me Show You.
Then Electro house remixed with a twist halfway through!
Direct Link, 'Right click' if you wish to save
Would really appreciate feedback on this one (I may even return the favour)
Especially your view on the synth that comes in around 3:45sec. |
Ok. Here goes. I dont know of the original songs you used to make this, so perhaps i can give you an outsiders opinion.
All in all i liked it a lot. You made some great builds and there is a lot of energy within the song. Great job with the vocals, and i feel there is nothing wrong with the ending. i do also enjoy the basslines, too many songs have the bassline blended in too much and its nice to hear one stick out. Bring out the funk!!
As far as the synth goes, i like the rhythm but feel like the sound is a little soft. If your looking for depth is works great but if your wanting to explode the track i would change the sound if it were me.
I would pick one of the bass sounds/riffs and stick with it. If the first bassline is the favorite for people, then id go with that. Although id admit i like the second better, im not a big fan of arpish-like bass and tend to favor more realistic bass sounds. But thats just me.
Just some ideas on why the first verse gets a greater response:
- .After the builds, the second has vocals and that atmosphere fx come in later while the first has them come in instantly.
- The bassline mentioned above.
For the second verse, try stretching the scream to maybe 4 secs pas the end of the last perc hit in the build, end then silence a second, and come in with the kick, bassline, snare or clap or both, and synth only for above 4 patterns/bars. Make the last pattern/bar a 2 sec loop of the previous ones then come in after that full force. Or some variation of what i wrote. Hard to explain w/o a bpm or measure in front of me so i hope i wrote that right
Or come in with the second verse the same as you did with the first, but with the added synth sound. Those were just a couple ideas that ran through my mind after listening to it
Take this advice with a grain of salt, as i tend not to follow the pack with most of my creations. |

Its very very well done, although its pretty minimal melodically. I have no idea what the original sounds like, lol, but I like your version. I like the chop work on the vocals. I like it the best after you add a bit more melody with that synth @ 3:45 you were talking about. It takes a bit more character at that point, imo. overall good work, me likey |

I think that you've done some really nice work their but the back of my mind was shouting "Yes, here comes that infamous camisra bass line" leading up to the chorus then when the bass finally kicked in there wasn't the impact I was looking for in my mind.
I think that it needs to kick into the camisra bass line as this is the key element to the original and anyone listening to it that has heard the original has this tattooed in the back of their mind.
In saying this, it's all about the creativity so maybe stick with what you've done?
I think for anyone listening to it and has heard the originals will automatically expect the camisra bass line. Anyone who hasn't heard them (which I still can't quite believe! lol) could quite easily say it sounds fine like it is.
hope this helps;) |

Ill get the mod thing out the way 1st All CAPITALS is seen as shouting. But hey, if you cant shout to a tune you like whats the world coming too!!
I agree, the 2nd bassline is pants, ill give it a go layering it with the 1st bassline.

Ill take the salt, the king of condiments!
The vocal coming in at the start works nicely, just tried that, actually started the vocal during the build up now.
Also moved the atmosphere to start instantly.
Unfortunately its difficult to put the 1sec break after the scream as the scream sample is not clean enough (has drums and stuff behind it)
Thanks for your ideas.

Thanks, ill add a tick to the 'keep synth in some form' box. I wasnt sure about it from the start.

It does help yes, I think our shared love of the original Camisra bassline may save it a place in the mix.
I do feel like ive stamped on the classic tracks grave with my attempt.
Its only a matter of time before a big label throws a mix of this back into the mainstream, I may as well try and do
it some justice in this version!
(Note to self; create an 'I told you so' post when Camisra gets re-released... Ill guess in 2009) |

The "expected" bassline will always be an issue when you take on remixing a song thats has been huge...I liked it but what I personally would do is extend the breakdowns , sample the scream, use that more times and add more efx to it... the simplest way being, running the version different ways (digitally) through a pioneer 800 mixer using especially the filter and delay combined and recording it again (digital) and then edit all the versions to one kick ass version.

I really dont get on on with the 800 mixer, I used it just last week while supporting De La Soul.
(hehe, just getting a name in there!!)
The lay-out just seems wrong and the effect 'mix' (less/more) is not consistent with
the different effects.
For example you cant blend the filter to zero, its always there once hitting it regardless
of the setting.
Yet echo, can be tapped, timed and reduced to zero on the fly.
Its a nice desk but wouldnt recommend it for any sort of studio processing. |
