Warning from 54 Records!

Anybody found hosting their mix of Mission Control on their own myspace, will be warned and disqualified from the competition.

We do not want 100's of mixes of this song posted on Myspace profiles, as it will take the glory from the winner.

Be warned!

J

Funny enough, I recently had contact with a chart topping band (in a studio engineering way) and they asked me if I knew any good re-mixers to do a track from their new album!

I like the idea of record companies embracing the bedroom talent out there instead of trying to get their ISP to delete them! Is this the internet version of 'Re-MiXfactor where everyday members of the public doing ordinary jobs get the chance to get noticed and end up re-mixing for record companies as a job??
If you can call re-mixing a job it's a bit like being a chocolate taster, or a wine taster.

Any chance of the Ableton file with all of the individual tracks? I'm assuming some sampling of the original tracks instruments is OK?

Yes you could look at it this way but look at it from the perspective that you are unknown and this is a good opportunity to get your foot in the door so to speak. You never know what could happen for the person who creates the winning mix.

Everyone has to start from the bottom to get anywhere in this business.

So what do you have to loose?

i am stil not happy about rule number 4.

but thats also a good view...
lets try it! ;)

cheers

Hi Guys

In answer to your question, I can't obtain an ableton file I’m afraid as the song was recorded in logic.
Also, the reason for not including any instrument parts; is that we would like a completely different take on the song..

Also, I am sorry you do not agree with rule 4, I am not sure what you expect, as the song was written by Eskimo Disco and therefore owned by them.
As already stated in previous posts, the winner will have their name displayed in the song title, giving credit to you as the producer of the mix.
If someone hears your mix and loves it, no doubt they will look for other mixes you have done OR if a band hear the mix, they may also ask you to remix one of their songs .....OR if we love it that much WE will be emailing you next time we need a mix. Is that not enough opportunity?

If you would prefer to keep banging out mashes of chart hits that a million other bedroom DJ's have done before you, then go ahead....but we at 54 Records are trying to create opportunities and open doors for you.

This also brings me onto the reason I have banned anyone from using their mix on any profile sites. Please give the winner some credit as he/she needs to know he/she has the only other available remix out there and not be one of 200 versions you can find on myspace...If you were to be the winner, think about how you would feel!?

J

That's a catchy track. Just wish I had the time to have a go.

Regarding rule 4: If you don't like the rules then don't enter. Simple as....

Also, may I suggest that any person breaking the rules incurs automatic disqualification. They may then pay some attention to all of them.

the fact that you've also 'created' something for this comp. in less than a week makes me feel it wouldn't be that great also Smilie_PDT

Umm I just work fast ok Smilie_PDT! Trust me, not to sound cocky but I know what I'm doing and the response from j was "Holy s**t." Im just have a fast quality production. And apologies, if I misread some rules.

Are there any rules against signed artists entering? If not, I'm gonna give this a shot!

Tim.

If your track can't be sent over email - please send via yousendit.com to the same email address. It is free and you can send upto 1 gig over email.

Hope that helps everyone.

I have nearly finished my remix I just need confirmation of something. I have used some samples and it says on the CD that they are royalty free, - is that the same as copyright free. I don't want to act stupid but I don't want to get in trouble for using samples!!!

Also I need to confirm that these samples are copyright free as I might be using some of these samples to enter the remix competition.

I used Korg KPR77 posted in this topic drum sounds http://www.acapellas4u.co.uk/topic7024.html
and house drum kit posted here http://www.acapellas4u.co.uk/topic6700.html?highlight=

my understanding of rule #4 is that we create an entirely new music track which incorporates the vocals from Mission Control, and the rights to the winning mix are wholly owned by Eskimo Disco.

now let's say that the winner wanted to commercially release a version of their remix which does not have Eskimo Disco's vocals. doesn't the remixer retain the copyright to the music s/he produced?

Sorry no, as the rule states the winning mix will be owned by Eskimo Disco. Permission may be granted to use the song on profile sites or for promo, but the producer will not own the Copyright.
