Upgrading? No. You definitely have to give it some time, though.
The main thing gets people about FL is that it doesn't suddenly give them great sounds. This is because of the very limited (read: awful sounding) sample sets and what would appear to be lackluster native synths (read: completely incorrect assessment). You don't get a bunch of cool presets and decent starting samples with FL period.
However, that's about the only thing truly bad thing about it. The sequencer is one of the best in the field (sorry folks, it is) and the native FX actually sound alright. Get as many samples as you can - paid for, free, whatever as long as they sound good - work on your synthesis skills, and probably get a few select plugins. If you want more flexibility, add some VST synths.
Short of recording a band, FL is pretty good at what it does. Just be willing to work with it. |

| I totally agree. Pick up a few vst's and you can make FL sound pretty professional. It's all about the interface. I love FL bc the interface is so user friendly and it helps get ideas out quicker while you still have the creative spark. |

That's a given for all DAWs I'm afraid. Pro Tools, Live, Reason, Logic, Cubase... You name it. |

Cubase isn't nearly as intuitive as FL though. Granted, I grew up using programs vastly different from Cubase, but every time I use it I'm just amazed at how slow and clunky it is. For recording, FL Studio kinda blows, but for sequencing I haven't found anything comparable. |

I've been uising fl for two and a half years now, I cant see myself feeling the need to change software after three years.
I just simply couldn't be bothered with learning anything else, i've had le versions of most softwares and after a few hours have given up and gone back to what i know best, even when ive had in depth tutorials. The only other piece of software i've ever made a beat in is acid and i didnt feel like i had participated so much, I would recomend acid for arrangements though we usually do everything in fruity loops including our own vocals. |

You should try Reaper what the funk, it's really similar to Acid, except it takes Acid to the cleaners on all counts, bar none.
Once he implements a few missing midi features i'll be switching from Steinberg DAW's to Reaper, without doubt.
Only problem i have with it is the Acid type workflow, coming from steiny, it's taking some time to get used to... but the unlimited nature of the way he coded it simply puts all others to shame.
It's ridiculously good, and as he's a multimillionaire already, he's coding it for the musician/producer rather than the bottom line and the bank manager. |

as long as you have your own fx an vst incorporated into fl, your flying, all fl then acts is, is a blank canvas for your ideas, just like any sequencer, all you do then is produce a great track! Ive had quite a few record releases, and im using fl. I was using cubase in college and was getting the same results as in fl. As the above said, if your comfortable with your setup as is now, then continue mate, no point in changing |

Ive read great things about reaper, Think I even have it on disc, I subscribe to a magazine some people on here may be familiar with called Computer Music.
If you can get it and don't already I suggest you do, it covers a differant genre in every issue, comes with its own daw as well as trail and full software and bags full of samples, every time I think about cancelling my subscription they drop another classic issue which swiftly changes my mind. |

I´m using FL-Studio for about 7 Years now. And I am very familiar with it. I tried out some other Applications, like reason or cubase, but i can say that my favourite is and will be FL.
You see, BASSHUNTER makes music with it,and he´s become No.1 !! ;) |
